JetBlue raised its checked bag fees on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the second increase this year. For tickets booked on or after November 3, the first checked bag now costs at least $50 each way on flights within the U.S., Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean. That's up from $39, the floor JetBlue set when it last raised fees in late March.
If you bought a JetBlue ticket before November 3, including a trip for the holidays, you'll pay the old fees on that booking. Here's what the new JetBlue checked bag fees look like, who checks a bag free, and what to do before you book your next flight.
What JetBlue Now Charges for Checked Bags
JetBlue prices bags two ways at once. The fee depends on whether you fly on a peak or off-peak date, and on whether you pay more than 24 hours before departure or wait until the airport. Here's the new schedule against the old one, per bag, each way:
- First bag, off-peak: $50 prepaid or $60 at the airport, up from $39 and $49.
- First bag, peak: $55 prepaid or $70 at the airport, up from $49 and $59.
- Second bag, off-peak: $70 prepaid or $75 at the airport, up from $59 and $69.
- Second bag, peak: $75 prepaid or $85 at the airport, up from $69 and $79.
The new $50 minimum is 28% higher than the lowest fee JetBlue charged before. Peak dates cover major holidays and much of the summer. If you wait to pay at the airport on a peak date, one checked bag costs $140 round trip.
The schedule applies to Main Base, Main, Main Flex and EvenMore fares, so a standard Main ticket pays the same bag fee as the cheapest one. If you're not sure what your ticket includes, our guide to what each JetBlue fare includes walks through the options.
Flights to Europe went up as well. On transatlantic routes, the first checked bag on JetBlue's cheapest Main Base fare is now $80 each way on off-peak dates, up from $60. Peak-date and airport fees are higher than that.
Who Checks a Bag Free
Passengers in Mint, JetBlue's premium cabin, get their first checked bag free. So do travelers who book BlueFirst, the airline's new domestic first class, which debuts in December.
TrueBlue members with Mosaic status get at least one free checked bag. Holders of the JetBlue Plus and JetBlue Premier credit cards get a first checked bag benefit. For more on what Mosaic members and Premier cardholders are getting next, see our piece on JetBlue's plan for free BlueFirst upgrades.
That leaves the people most exposed to this increase easy to spot. If you fly JetBlue economy, don't hold Mosaic status and don't carry a JetBlue Plus or Premier card, you'll pay these fees on most routes, so check what your fare includes before you book.
Why the Increase Matters Beyond JetBlue
JetBlue went first the last time, too. After its late-March increase, other major U.S. airlines followed with their own bag fee increases within weeks.
How the rest of the industry responds this time is the open question, and the pattern from the spring is the reason to watch. If you also fly United or American, our guides to United checked bag fees and American Airlines bag fees cover what those airlines charge today and which cards waive the fee.
The increase also lands on families and groups hardest. A household that checks a bag per person on every trip feels each step in the schedule above several times over, and peak dates such as the holidays carry the highest prices.
What to Do Before Your Next JetBlue Booking
Start with when you booked. The new fees attach to tickets purchased on or after November 3, 2026. A trip you bought before that date keeps the previous prices.
For new bookings, pay for your bag more than 24 hours before departure. On every line of the schedule, the prepaid price is lower than the airport price. On an off-peak first bag, that's $50 instead of $60 each way.
Check JetBlue's peak-date calendar for your dates before you settle on a flight. The same first bag costs $50 prepaid on an off-peak date and $55 prepaid on a peak date, and the gap widens if you wait until the airport.
If you check a bag on most JetBlue trips, the free bag benefits are the way around the fee. Mosaic status and the JetBlue Plus and Premier cards each include a first checked bag. If you rarely check a bag, or fly JetBlue once a year, the prepaid off-peak price is the number that matters to you.
The Bottom Line for JetBlue Flyers
Any JetBlue ticket you buy from November 3, 2026, carries the new fees. On flights within the U.S., Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean, that's at least $50 each way for a first bag and up to $85 for a second bag paid at the airport on a peak date. Tickets bought before November 3 keep the old prices.
