How we got there — the full method

1.17 cents per point: the median of 14 cash-versus-award pairs read off the program's own booking engine on 2026-09-08, logged out, one search after another in the same session. Ten routes, two in each of five bands of nonstop block time, all departing 2026-10-15 one way: JFK–LAX, JFK–SFO, ATL–LAX, MSP–LAX, ATL–ORD, JFK–MIA, ATL–MCO, LAX–SFO, JFK–LHR, ATL–CDG. For each route the flight sampled is the airline-operated nonstop with the lowest economy award price that day, and the award and the cash price both come from that one flight. The economy comparator is Delta Main, read verbatim off the fare cell; no route in the sample offered a Basic column and the booking form's "Include Basic" control was left at its default. The recorded URL is the cash search, because "Shop with Miles" is a control on the results page rather than a URL parameter: the award price is that same result page with the Miles tab selected, in the same session. The business comparator is Delta One on the four routes that sell it on the sampled flight; domestic First is recorded but excluded, because on a 1h24m LAX-SFO hop First is not a business cabin. On the two international routes the miles view returns a shorter flight list than the cash view and renumbers partner codeshares, so only Delta-operated metal appears in both and only Delta metal is sampled. Each pair is (cash fare minus award taxes) divided by award points. Economy alone medians 1.21c and business alone 1.14c. Every figure is a live price on a bookable date, and it will move. The rows themselves are on this page above, with the search that produced each one.

How to earn Delta SkyMiles

Cobranded cards for Delta SkyMiles

Flying: $1 MQD per $1 of ticket price on Delta-marketed flights operated by Delta or partners, excluding taxes, fees and gratuities. Basic Economy earns no miles and no status credit.
Card Headstart: $2,500 MQDs per card type, on the Delta SkyMiles Platinum, Platinum Business, Reserve and Reserve Business cards.
Card Boost: $1 MQD per $20 of spending on the Platinum cards; $1 MQD per $10 on the Reserve cards.
Partner flights: Partner-marketed flights earn miles as a percentage of distance flown set by fare class. Aeromexico moved from ticket price to distance for tickets issued on or after 9/10/2026, and Aerolineas Argentinas has a separate table for flights flown on or after 09/10/2026. About Delta SkyMiles

Delta reduced Medallion qualification to a single currency: Medallion Qualification Dollars. Silver at $5,000 MQDs, Gold at $10,000, Platinum at $15,000 and Diamond at $28,000. There is no segment route and no mileage route — MQDs alone.

MQDs are earned at $1 per $1 of ticket price on Delta-marketed flights operated by Delta or its partners, excluding taxes, fees and gratuities. Basic Economy earns no miles and no status credit at all.

Cards do two distinct things. Headstart grants $2,500 MQDs per card type on the Platinum, Platinum Business, Reserve and Reserve Business cards. Boost earns MQDs from spending — $1 per $20 spent on Platinum, and $1 per $10 on Reserve.

MQDs reset each calendar year, and status earned runs from the day it is reached until January 31 of the year after next. Delta also recognises Million Milers at 1,000,000 flown miles with annual complimentary Medallion status; the tier granted is not stated on the pages read.

Delta prices award tickets dynamically and publishes no award chart.
