Delta charges a $30 processing fee plus 1 cent per mile to transfer SkyMiles to someone else. At those rates, 30,000 miles costs $330, the full amount of the credit.
The credit applies to transfers of SkyMiles to another person's SkyMiles account.
Delta's transfer rules
- You can send between 1,000 and 30,000 miles per transaction, in 1,000-mile increments.
- One transaction can include up to four recipients.
- An account can transfer out up to 150,000 miles a year and receive up to 300,000.
- The receiving account has to have been open at least 10 days and have earned at least one mile.
How to take advantage
- Check the Amex Offers on each of your Amex cards, since the offer is targeted.
- Add the offer to your card before you transfer.
- Make the transfer on Delta's site and pay the fees with the card that has the offer.
Why this deal matters
Transferring SkyMiles to another person is normally expensive. With this offer covering the fee, it's worth doing when the transfer solves a real problem: topping up a family member who is a few thousand miles short of an award, or pooling miles into one account for a booking.
If you have the offer and a transfer you'd make anyway, use it before November 14. If you don't need to move miles, there's no reason to create a transfer just for the credit.
