Hyatt is bringing the Hyatt Regency brand to a private island near Batam, Indonesia. Hyatt Hotels Corporation and PT Citra Buana Prakarsa announced on November 4, 2026, that they've signed a management agreement for Hyatt Regency Kapal Besar Island Resort, a planned 140-key resort on Pulau Kapal Besar that's anticipated to open in 2031.
The headline for travelers is the location. Hyatt says the trip from HarbourFront in Singapore is expected to take approximately 50 minutes. The resort will be the first Hyatt Regency in the Riau Islands. It's a long way off, so this is one to watch rather than one to plan around. Here's what Hyatt has announced and who the resort is being built for.
What Hyatt Announced
The deal is a management agreement between Hyatt and the owner, PT Citra Buana Prakarsa, a Batam-based property developer founded in 1988. According to Hyatt's release, the developer has a hospitality portfolio of more than 1,400 keys, alongside residential, commercial and industrial real estate.
Hyatt frames the project as part of its continued growth in Indonesia. It's also one piece of a bigger plan from the developer. The release says the resort will form part of PT Citra Buana Prakarsa's broader vision for a cluster of island destinations. Alongside its existing resorts on Nirup Island, the company plans to develop neighboring Pulau Layang and Pulau Kapal Kecil.
Bastien Touzeau, Hyatt's regional vice president of growth for Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, put the case for the site plainly. "Kapal Besar's natural setting and convenient access from Singapore make it an exciting addition to the region's leisure offering," he said.

Getting There From Singapore
Hyatt says access will be via Nirup Island, which is home to the nearest immigration checkpoint, followed by a short ferry transfer to Pulau Kapal Besar.
The total journey from HarbourFront, Singapore, is expected to take approximately 50 minutes. That's the figure Hyatt gives for the whole trip, including the transfer from Nirup Island.
What the Resort Will Include
Hyatt says the resort will be built around the island's lake, mangroves and coastal surroundings. The planned facilities read like a full-service family resort:
- 140 rooms and suites
- A spa and a fitness center
- Outdoor pools
- A Camp Hyatt kids' club with indoor and outdoor facilities and an entertainment center
The release describes the resort as a destination for a relaxing getaway, a family vacation, or weddings, celebrations and group gatherings. Hyatt Regency itself is a big brand. Hyatt says it has more than 245 locations in over 50 countries.

Who This Resort Suits
Judged on what Hyatt has announced, the resort lines up best with three kinds of travelers. Families are the clearest fit, given the Camp Hyatt kids' club and its entertainment center. Weddings and group celebrations are a second, since Hyatt names those events directly. The third is anyone based in or traveling through Singapore who wants an island stay about 50 minutes away.
It suits travelers who need a stay soon far less. With an anticipated opening in 2031, it's one for a trip well down the road. If you want Singapore itself, our guide to Raffles Singapore and ALL Accor points covers a stay in the city.
What Happens Next
The resort is a signed management agreement, and Hyatt anticipates opening it in 2031.
