Hyatt announced Park Hyatt Comporta on August 25, 2026. It is the brand's first hotel in Comporta, Portugal, and Hyatt projects a 2029 opening. The plan is 58 rooms and suites, plus six villas and 22 residences.
Comporta sits about an hour south of Lisbon, on the Alentejo coast. It is a low-rise stretch of rice fields, pine, and long Atlantic beaches. There is no airport and no resort strip, which is most of its appeal.
Hyatt is building it with Coporgest, a Portuguese developer. Park Hyatt is the top of the Hyatt luxury range, so this is the high end of the portfolio landing in a place that has stayed deliberately quiet.
What Hyatt said
"Comporta has a rare combination of relaxed beach living, protected nature and creative spirit, with a sense of calm that has remained wonderfully intact," said Tamara Lohan, global brand leader for luxury at Hyatt.
Tina Necrason, who leads Hyatt's branded residences, described the residences as an extension of the coastline, a short drive south of Lisbon.
That is brand language, and it should read as brand language. The useful part is what it tells you about scale.
Fifty-eight rooms is small. Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome has 149. A hotel this size does not release much award space in summer.
Why this one is worth tracking
Hyatt points are the most valuable hotel currency most readers hold, and the reason is the award chart. Hyatt still publishes one. Hilton and Marriott moved to pricing that floats with cash rates. Hyatt caps what a night can cost you.
Park Hyatt properties usually land in the top categories. A Category 8 night runs 40,000 points at peak. On the Portuguese coast in August, a room at this kind of hotel can run past 900 euros. That is the gap that makes Hyatt worth saving for.
I want to be precise about what we do not know. Hyatt has not assigned a category, has not named an opening month, and has not opened a booking window. Anyone quoting you a points price for this hotel is guessing.
How I would prepare for it
If Comporta interests you, the work starts now and it is not complicated.
World of Hyatt has one transfer partner that matters, and it is Chase Ultimate Rewards at 1:1. That ratio is the whole reason Hyatt sits at the center of so many points strategies. Points move over instantly in most cases.
Three years is enough time to earn a stay like this without changing how you spend. It is also long enough that a category assignment could land anywhere.
So I would not hoard points for this one hotel. Earn Hyatt points because they are the best hotel points to hold. Treat Comporta as one of several places to spend them.
There is a second reason to pay attention. Comporta has almost no branded hotel supply today, and the few places to stay book out months ahead in summer. A Park Hyatt with 58 rooms will not fix that. It will, though, give points holders a way into a region that has been cash-only in practice.
If you want the mechanics of getting the most out of a Hyatt balance, our guide to Hyatt Globalist status covers where the elite benefits actually pay off, including suite upgrades that apply at Park Hyatt properties.
For readers who prefer a target they can book today, World of Hyatt has plenty of European properties already in the chart. Comporta is a 2029 story. File it, do not plan around it.
