Key Points

  • The IHG One Rewards Credit Card has no annual fee and suits occasional IHG guests who want Silver Elite status and points that don't expire.
  • New cardmembers can earn 125,000 bonus points after $2,000 in purchases in the first 3 months, and Chase says to apply by November 18, 2026.
  • Starting in 2027, Gold Elite takes $15,000 and the fourth reward night free takes $5,000 in purchases each calendar year.

The IHG One Rewards Credit Card is Chase's no-annual-fee IHG card, and it's the one I'd hand to someone who stays at a Holiday Inn Express a few times a year and doesn't want to pay for the privilege. Chase's October 1, 2026, announcement says it was formerly known as the IHG One Rewards Traveler Card, and the refresh added 5 Elite Night Credits a year.

Right now it carries a launch offer of 125,000 bonus points after $2,000 in purchases in the first 3 months, and Chase's comparison page says to apply by November 18, 2026. This review covers what the card earns, what Silver Elite status actually gets you, the spending thresholds that change in 2027, and when the $150 Premier card is the better pick. Every figure comes from Chase's and IHG's own pages, read on October 9, 2026.

Quick Summary

Best for: IHG guests who want points, Silver Elite status and no foreign transaction fees without an annual fee.

Standout benefit: 5 Elite Night Credits deposited every calendar year, which count toward IHG status and Milestone Rewards.

Biggest drawback: No anniversary free night, and from 2027 the fourth-night-free benefit takes $5,000 in yearly spending to unlock.

Current offer: 125,000 bonus points after $2,000 in purchases in the first 3 months, plus 10,000 more after you add an authorized user in that window. Apply by November 18, 2026.

The Welcome Offer and Who Can Get It

The new cardmember bonus is 125,000 IHG One Rewards points after you make $2,000 in purchases during the first 3 months from account opening. Chase says to allow 6 to 8 weeks after you qualify for the points to post to your IHG account.

There's a second, smaller bonus that's easy to miss: 10,000 points after you add an authorized user to the account during the first 3 months. It pays once, for the first authorized user, no matter how many you add.

Eligibility is where people trip. Per Chase's offer details, the card isn't available to current cardmembers of any personal IHG One Rewards card, or to previous cardmembers who received a new cardmember bonus on any personal IHG card in the last 24 months. If you opened the Premier last year and got its bonus, this one has to wait.

What the Card Earns

Here's how Chase's offer details lay out the earning:

5X at IHG hotels. You earn 5 points per dollar at hotels participating in IHG One Rewards.

3X on dining, groceries and gas. That covers restaurants (including takeout and eligible delivery), grocery stores and gas stations.

3X on bills through the end of 2026. Utilities; internet, cable and phone services; and select streaming services earn 3X on purchases that post through December 31, 2026. After that date, those purchases drop to 2X.

2X on everything else.

The "up to 17X" figure on Chase's page stacks three things for a hotel stay booked directly with IHG: the card's 5X, up to 10X that IHG pays every member, and up to 2X more from the Silver Elite bonus the card gives you. Only the 5X comes from Chase; the rest comes from IHG, and IHG's part only applies when you book through a direct IHG channel such as ihg.com.

Points move to your IHG One Rewards account automatically after each billing cycle. Points earned by an authorized user's card go to the primary cardmember's IHG account.

Silver Elite Status, and What It's Worth

The card gives you automatic Silver Elite status for as long as you keep it open and your IHG account is in good standing. Chase's page lists what Silver includes:

A 20% bonus on top of base points on most IHG stays. Late check-out up to 2 p.m. if the room is available. Complimentary Wi-Fi. Member rates and no blackout dates on Reward Nights. And the one I'd put first for a casual IHG guest: your points don't expire.

That last one matters more than it sounds. IHG's member terms expire a Club member's points after 12 months with no earning or redeeming activity, and IHG's tier page lists "Points Don't Expire" from Silver up. If you only stay with IHG once every year or two, the card keeps your balance alive.

The no-fee card's path to a higher tier is spending, covered below.

Elite Night Credits

The refresh added 5 Elite Night Credits every calendar year. Chase deposits the first 5 within 6 to 8 weeks of opening the card, then by February 1 each year after that. The terms say the credits count toward elite status and Milestone Rewards.

Two conditions sit in the fine print. The credits go to you as the primary cardmember, and you "can only receive 5 ENCs, regardless of the number of IHG One Rewards cards that are linked with a IHG One Rewards account." If you're planning to stack IHG cards toward a night count, our guide to stacking IHG card Elite Night Credits walks through what each card's terms say.

Spending Thresholds, Now and in 2027

The no-fee card has two calendar-year spending thresholds, and both change shape in 2027.

$15,000 in a calendar year. Chase's terms give the primary cardmember 10,000 bonus points and Gold Elite status after $15,000 in purchases in a calendar year. IHG's card page and Chase's card page both describe the Gold Elite award as starting in 2027. Once earned, Gold lasts for the rest of that calendar year and the following one. Only one IHG card account per IHG member can earn this Gold award.

$5,000 in a calendar year, for the fourth night free. The Fourth Reward Night Free benefit makes every fourth night free on a points stay of four or more consecutive nights at the same hotel. Chase's terms say that after December 31, 2026, you'll have to make $5,000 in purchases in a calendar year to get it, and it then lasts for the rest of that year and the next.

Say you put $400 a month on the card. That's $4,800 a year, just short of the $5,000 line, so the fourth night free wouldn't unlock in 2027. Check your own spending against both numbers before you count on either benefit.

Purchases are counted by transaction date, so a charge dated after December 31 counts toward the next year. Balance transfers, cash advances and fees don't count.

Other Benefits

No foreign transaction fees. Chase's pricing terms list "None" for foreign transactions.

30% off points purchases. You save at least 30% when you buy IHG points with the card. Purchased points don't count toward elite status.

Early access to Reward Night sales. Cardmembers get early access when IHG runs them.

DashPass. Activate DashPass with the card between February 1, 2025 and December 31, 2027 and you get 12 months free. After that, it renews at the monthly rate until you cancel.

Travel and purchase protection. Chase's page lists trip cancellation and interruption insurance up to $5,000 per covered traveler and $10,000 per trip, travel accident insurance up to $500,000, lost luggage reimbursement up to $3,000 per covered traveler, baggage delay insurance of up to $100 a day for 3 days when bags are delayed over 6 hours, and auto rental coverage that's secondary to your personal insurance in the U.S. Purchase protection covers eligible new purchases for 120 days against damage or theft, up to $500 per item, and extended warranty protection adds a year to U.S. manufacturer warranties of three years or less.

Rates and Fees

The annual fee is $0. The purchase APR is 19.49% to 27.99% variable, based on creditworthiness, and the cash advance APR is 28.74% variable. Cash advances cost $10 or 5% of each one, whichever is greater. Chase notes this account may not be eligible for balance transfers; where they're offered, the fee is $5 or 5% of each transfer, whichever is greater. Late and returned payments are up to $40. Chase's terms list these as accurate as of September 22, 2026.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • No annual fee and no foreign transaction fees.
  • Automatic Silver Elite status, which stops your IHG points from expiring.
  • 5 Elite Night Credits every calendar year toward status and Milestone Rewards.
  • 3X on dining, grocery stores and gas stations, plus 5X at IHG hotels.
  • A 125,000-point launch offer through November 18, 2026.

Cons

  • No anniversary free night, which the $150 Premier includes.
  • Starting in 2027, the fourth night free takes $5,000 a year in purchases.
  • Gold Elite takes $15,000 in purchases in a calendar year.
  • The 3X on utilities, phone and streaming ends with purchases posting after December 31, 2026.
  • You can't get the bonus if you've had a personal IHG card bonus in the last 24 months.

How It Compares With the IHG Premier

The obvious alternative is the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card at $150 a year. Per IHG's and Chase's pages, it earns 10X at IHG hotels, 5X on flights booked directly with airlines, car rental agencies, dining, grocery stores and gas stations, and 3X on everything else. It comes with automatic Gold Elite, 15 Elite Night Credits a year, an Anniversary Free Night at hotels up to 50,000 points (with the option to add your own points above that), up to $100 a year in Food & Beverage Rewards at IHG hotels, and a $100 airline statement credit when you spend at least $250 on flights bought directly from the airline each calendar year through 2027. The fourth night free comes automatically, with no spending threshold. Its launch offer is 180,000 points after $3,000 in the first 3 months.

The question is whether you'll use the free night. If you'd book one IHG night a year at a hotel in the 50,000-point range anyway, the Premier's fee is mostly about whether that night is worth more to you than $150. If you wouldn't, the no-fee card gets you Silver, 5 night credits and non-expiring points for nothing. There's also a new $350 Premier Select with Platinum Elite and 20 night credits; our coverage of the IHG card refresh sets out all four cards.

Who Should Get It

Get the IHG One Rewards Credit Card if you stay with IHG a few nights a year, want your points to stop expiring, and don't want a fee. It also works as a no-fee card for travel abroad, since there's no foreign transaction fee.

Skip it for the IHG One Rewards Premier if you'll redeem an anniversary night every year or want Gold status without spending $15,000. And if you've received a personal IHG card bonus in the past 24 months, you aren't eligible for this card's offer until that window passes.

Final Verdict

If IHG is your occasional hotel and you hold no IHG card, this is the one to get: $0 a year, Silver Elite, 5 night credits annually and 125,000 bonus points after $2,000 in 3 months. Apply by November 18, 2026 to get the launch offer. If you already know you'll redeem a free night every year, compare it with the Premier before you decide: its $150 fee buys that night plus Gold Elite, 15 night credits a year, up to $100 in Food & Beverage Rewards and a $100 airline credit.
