Hawaii is where hotel points either earn their keep or expose how thin the math actually is. Cash rates at the Wailea and Ko Olina resorts run past a thousand dollars a night in the winter window, and that cash number is the only thing that decides whether a points night was a good one.

This guide has been corrected. It previously quoted specific point costs for Hyatt, Marriott and Hilton properties, and cents-per-point figures worked out from them. Those programs price awards dynamically or re-categorize annually, and we could not load a current published chart for any of them today. So the numbers are gone, and what replaces them is the method for getting your own number in about ninety seconds.

Quick Answer

World of Hyatt is the strongest Hawaii hotel currency because it prices awards from a published category chart rather than tracking the cash rate, so a high cash night does not cost proportionally more points. Marriott Bonvoy and Hilton Honors both have large Hawaii portfolios priced dynamically, which is why their best Hawaii use is a free-night certificate rather than transferred points.

The binding constraint in Hawaii is award space, not chart math. And if you fund Hyatt stays with Chase points, the transfer ratio changes on October 1, 2026.

The Chase to Hyatt Transfer Change on October 1, 2026

This is the single most important thing on this page for anyone planning a Hawaii Hyatt stay, and it is new.

Chase's own Sapphire Preferred page states that Ultimate Rewards points transfer to World of Hyatt at a rate of 4:3, and gives the example that 1,000 Ultimate Rewards points become 750 World of Hyatt points. The same page states that accounts opened before June 15, 2026 keep the 1:1 rate through September 30, 2026. Chase's Ink Business Preferred page states the 4:3 rate starts October 1, 2026.

Anyone who applied for those cards on or after June 15, 2026 already has the lower rate.

Chase publishes no transfer ratio at all on either Sapphire Reserve page, and its June 15 announcement does not mention Reserve. We have written the change up in full, including what Chase has and has not said about Reserve, in our piece on the Chase to Hyatt transfer ratio change.

What this means for a Hawaii plan is arithmetic, not advice. If you were counting on a certain number of Chase points converting into a certain number of Hyatt points, check which card you hold and when you opened it, then recount. Your own Ultimate Rewards transfer screen is the authoritative source for the ratio on your account, and Chase points you there itself.

Why Hawaii Redemption Math Is Different

The reason Hawaii is a points story is that the cash side keeps moving. Maui's Wailea row, Kauai's south shore, the Big Island's Kohala Coast and Oahu's Ko Olina corridor all have a fixed number of large resorts and no room to build more. Demand is seasonal and sharp, so cash rates swing hard between February and September.

A program that prices awards from a fixed category chart does not follow that swing. A program that prices dynamically does. That single difference, rather than any particular point total, is why Hyatt tends to outperform Marriott and Hilton on Hawaii redemptions.

The catch is that Hawaii award space is the tightest among major U.S. leisure destinations. The eleven-month booking window matters here in a way it does not at most chain hotels.

How to Value a Hawaii Award Night Yourself

Do this rather than trusting any published figure, including ours.

Open the property on the program's own site and price your exact dates in cash, including taxes and any resort fee. Then price the same dates in points. Divide the cash total by the points total and multiply by one hundred. That is your cents per point for that night, and it is the only version of the number that is true for your trip.

Resort fees are the part people miss. Many Hawaii properties charge a nightly resort fee that is not waived on award stays, and a fee of that size can swing a redemption's value materially on a short stay. Some properties do waive it. Check the specific property's terms rather than assuming either way.

Do the same exercise for two or three candidate properties before you transfer anything. Transfers to hotel programs are one-way and almost never reversible, so the order of operations matters: identify the award, confirm it is bookable, then transfer.

Hawaii Award Space: How to Actually Get the Night

Three rules before you start running point costs.

The eleven-month rule is real. Hyatt opens award space about eleven months out at most properties, and the trophy rooms at the most-wanted resorts can be gone within a day or two of release for winter dates. If your dates are fixed and peak, the calendar opening is the event you plan around.

Last-minute releases are the second window. Properties that did not sell out their cash rooms sometimes release additional award inventory inside the two weeks before arrival. That is the play if your dates are flexible and you are willing to hold your nerve.

Standard rooms are the only ones that price at the award rate in most programs. A search that returns nothing is often telling you the standard rooms are gone rather than that the hotel is full, and suites or ocean-view categories may still be sitting there at a points premium or on cash only. It is worth checking the room type before concluding a date is closed.

Peak pricing is the third. Chart-based programs price high-demand dates above standard, and dynamic programs move further still. Always price the specific dates rather than the property.

World of Hyatt: The Hawaii Hotel Currency

Hyatt is the headline because it prices from a published award category chart with off-peak, standard and peak tiers, so a resort whose cash rate triples in February does not cost triple the points.

We are not listing category numbers for the individual Hawaii properties. Hyatt re-categorizes annually, we could not load Hyatt's published chart today from any address we tried, and our own previous version of this article is not a source for its own claims. A category we printed in 2025 is exactly the kind of figure that decays without anyone noticing. Check the property page on hyatt.com for its current category before you transfer.

The Hawaii properties worth pricing are the Andaz Maui at Wailea, the Hyatt Regency Maui on Ka'anapali Beach, the Grand Hyatt Kauai on the Poipu coast, and the two Waikiki properties, the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach and the Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach.

Kauai is the under-covered one. Most Hawaii points coverage spends its oxygen on Maui, and the Grand Hyatt Kauai sits on the south shore with the Anara Spa and beach access, with fewer alternative points hotels nearby competing for the same traveler. If your dates work, it is usually the easiest premium south-shore room to get on points.

The two Waikiki properties are the reliable ones. They sit in the lower category band that the World of Hyatt Credit Card's anniversary Free Night Award covers, and they hold availability far better than the Maui resorts.

Marriott Bonvoy: Volume, Not Math

Marriott's Hawaii portfolio is broad, covering the Grand Wailea, the Ritz-Carlton Maui at Kapalua, the Wailea Beach Resort and the Westin Maui on Maui, plus the Sheraton Waikiki and the Royal Hawaiian on Oahu.

We are not quoting point costs for any of them. Marriott prices Hawaii awards dynamically with no published chart, so a number here would be a snapshot of one search on one date, and printing it as a fact would be misleading. Price your dates on marriott.com.

The structural point holds without numbers. Because the award price tracks the cash price, a Marriott Hawaii redemption tends to return roughly what the program's points are worth generally, which is well below what a chart-based program returns on the same expensive night. That is why the Bonvoy Hawaii play is usually a free-night certificate, which has a fixed points ceiling and therefore does capture the peak-rate upside, rather than a transfer.

Hilton Honors: Volume Earning, Modest Per-Point Math

Hilton's Hawaii story has the same shape. The Hilton Hawaiian Village on Waikiki is the headline property by sheer volume, and the Hilton Waikoloa Village is the most reliable points stay on the Big Island's Kohala Coast, where points-eligible inventory thins out fastest.

Again, no point costs from us. Hilton prices dynamically and publishes no chart.

The certificate logic repeats here. The Hilton Aspire card's Free Night Reward carries no category restriction, so it applies at a top Hawaii property on an expensive night, which is where a fixed-value certificate does its best work.

Stacking Flights with Hotels

Most Hawaii guides stop at hotels, which leaves the other half of the trip on the table. Honolulu and Kahului are both well served by partner award space.

Hawaiian Airlines miles are the obvious local currency and are reachable without holding a Hawaiian co-branded card. Air Canada Aeroplan is the under-covered one, because it prices partner awards on a distance-based chart and United flies Honolulu constantly from the West Coast and beyond.

We are not printing award prices for either. Both programs adjust pricing and both have partner-availability rules that change what any given route actually costs. Price the route in the program's own search.

The structural insight is what survives, and it is worth the effort: pricing the flight and the hotel as one stack usually returns better than either piece alone, because the flight sits in a chart-priced program at the same time the hotel does.

Peak-Season Caveats

Hawaii's peak windows are predictable: Christmas through New Year, Presidents Day weekend, spring break and Thanksgiving week. Chart programs price those dates at their peak tier and dynamic programs spike further. Trophy-property award space in those windows is essentially gone the day it opens.

Shoulder season is the workaround. Mid-September through mid-November is the cleanest Hawaii window, when cash rates ease, award space loosens and the weather still beats the mainland in November.

How to Build a Hawaii Balance from Scratch

This is a sequence, not a recommendation about your money.

If you are starting with no balances, the two cards that most directly feed a Hawaii Hyatt stay are a Chase Sapphire card, which earns transferable Ultimate Rewards, and the World of Hyatt Credit Card, which earns Hyatt points directly and carries an anniversary Free Night Award in the lower category band. Read the October 1 section above before you assume a Chase balance converts at 1:1.

If you already hold Marriott or Hilton points from previous cycles, price the certificate options against the transfer options on your actual dates before deciding. The certificate route is usually the one that captures a peak Hawaii night; that is a pattern, not a promise about your search.

If your dates are flexible, watch the two-week window for last-minute award releases. If they are rigid, plan around the eleven-month calendar opening.

Whether any of this is worth doing with your points is your call, and it depends on what else you would spend them on. We can tell you how the programs price Hawaii. We cannot tell you what your trip is worth to you.

Conclusion

Hawaii is the redemption story where the cash side does the heavy lifting, and that is precisely why the arithmetic has to be yours and current. A chart-based program like World of Hyatt holds up on an expensive night in a way a dynamically priced one does not, and free-night certificates are how Marriott and Hilton points reach the same properties.

The two things to act on are timing and the transfer ratio. Book at eleven months for winter peak, watch the two-week window otherwise, and if you are funding Hyatt with Chase points, check your card and your account-opening date against the October 1, 2026 change before you plan around a number.
