If you carry a Citi AAdvantage card, it's worth peeking at your inbox and your mailbox this week. Citi is rolling out a targeted spending offer that lets select cardholders earn 5 miles per dollar on online purchases, and it's the kind of easy bonus that's simple to miss if you're not looking for it.
What's the offer?
Eligible Citi AAdvantage cardholders can earn 5 miles per dollar spent on online purchases, capped at 2,500 bonus miles, through July 31, 2026. That works out to $500 in online spending to max out the bonus. Purchases made directly with American Airlines and at restaurants don't count toward the total, so this is really aimed at everyday online shopping.
Which cards are targeted?
We're seeing this offer show up most often on the American Airlines AAdvantage MileUp card and the Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard, though targeting varies by cardholder. If you don't have one of these cards yet and want in on future AAdvantage promotions, the Platinum Select card remains a solid way to build a relationship with Citi's American Airlines lineup.
What you need to do
This is a targeted, opt-in offer, which means two things. First, not everyone gets it, and the terms can vary from person to person. Second, and more importantly, you have to activate it. Log into your Citi account or check the offer details in your email to enroll before the June 15 activation deadline. Bonus miles typically post to your AAdvantage account within one to two billing cycles after the offer ends.
Should you care about 2,500 miles?
Honestly, it's not a life-changing bonus, but it's free miles for spending you were probably already going to do. If you've got a targeted AAdvantage card sitting in your wallet, move it to the front for the next few weeks and let your everyday online purchases do the work.
Not seeing an offer? Don't force it. Targeted promos aren't worth chasing with unnecessary spending, and Citi runs these regularly enough that another one will likely come around.
