United Airlines will fly nonstop between San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) starting March 29, 2027, with two flights a week. Starting June 19, 2027, it'll also connect both SFO and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) with Traverse City, Michigan, as seasonal summer service.
These are new United routes from California, and they point the airline's two West Coast hubs at smaller airports in Florida and Michigan. If you live near either hub, or you're planning a trip to Jacksonville or Traverse City next year, here's what the new flights look like.
The New United Routes at a Glance
Here's the short version of what's coming in 2027:
- San Francisco to Jacksonville: starts March 29, operating twice weekly, year-round.
- San Francisco to Traverse City: starts June 19, seasonal summer service.
- Los Angeles to Traverse City: starts June 19, seasonal summer service.
The Traverse City flights land at Cherry Capital Airport (TVC). Both Traverse City routes start on the same day.
San Francisco to Jacksonville
The Jacksonville route is the first of these to launch. United will fly San Francisco to Jacksonville twice weekly, on Mondays and Fridays, starting March 29. It's a year-round route, flown with a Boeing 737-800.
Flights leave Jacksonville at about 5:45 p.m., and the return flight leaves San Francisco at about 8:15 a.m. Two flights a week is a thin schedule, so your trip dates will need to line up with the days the flight operates.
Los Angeles and San Francisco to Traverse City
The Traverse City flights are seasonal. United will fly them from both Los Angeles and San Francisco starting June 19, 2027, and they run through the summer. They fly mostly on Saturdays, with extra flights on select Wednesdays: June 30 through July 7 and September 1 through September 8. United plans to use a Boeing 737-800.
These flights give Traverse City its first nonstop service from coast to coast.
More United Flying From San Francisco
Jacksonville and Traverse City aren't the only cities United has linked to San Francisco recently. Richmond and Norfolk, both in Virginia, are also on the list of new SFO destinations. The Richmond flights start twice weekly on March 28, and we covered both cities in our earlier report on United's Richmond and Norfolk additions. For more on United's San Francisco growth, see our coverage of United's other new San Francisco routes.
Who These Routes Suit
The Jacksonville flight runs two days a week, so it suits a trip where your dates can bend around Monday and Friday departures. The Traverse City flights suit a summer trip that starts on or after June 19, with most departures on Saturdays.
If you're based in Los Angeles or San Francisco and want a Michigan summer trip, both hubs now have a nonstop to Traverse City on those dates. If you're in Jacksonville, there's now a nonstop to San Francisco twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays. The Traverse City flights are seasonal.
What Changes and When
Two dates matter here. San Francisco to Jacksonville starts March 29, 2027, twice a week. Los Angeles and San Francisco to Traverse City start June 19, 2027, as seasonal summer service.
