Key Points

  • United will end all service to Tulum International Airport in early 2027, with its last Newark flight on January 2 and its last Houston flight on January 4.
  • Twice-weekly San Francisco to Richmond flights, on Thursdays and Sundays, start March 28, 2027.
  • San Francisco to Norfolk flights are set to run on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

United is ending all service to Tulum International Airport (TQO) in early 2027. Its last Newark flight is January 2, and its last Houston flight is January 4. United is also adding two San Francisco routes to Virginia: Richmond, starting March 28, 2027, and Norfolk.

Tulum Service Ends

United said it adjusts its schedule based on seasonality, demand and other market factors. It had already ended its Tulum flights from Chicago and Los Angeles. After the January dates, United won't fly to the airport at all.

If you hold a ticket to Tulum on United after those dates, check your reservation and your options with the airline. Cancun International Airport (CUN), more than two hours north by car, is the main alternative.

New Virginia Routes From San Francisco

United is adding two routes from San Francisco (SFO):

  • San Francisco to Richmond (RIC): twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays, starting March 28, 2027.
  • San Francisco to Norfolk (ORF): on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Check United's schedule for the first flight date.

These come on top of the other San Francisco routes United announced for spring 2027, which we cover in our story on United's new Bermuda and San Francisco routes.

What to Do Before You Book

Airlines can change schedules before flights begin, so confirm the days and start date on United's site before you book a trip that depends on a new route.
