As of October 2, 2026, United and Chase are running a targeted spending bonus for United Chase cardholders, and registration comes first. You activate the offer at united.com/ExtraMile by December 15, 2026, 11:59 p.m. CT, then use your card for purchases from October 1 through December 31, 2026 to earn bonus miles.
It isn't open to every cardholder. Only the primary cardmember on the card named in the offer message you received for this promotion can take part, and the offer can't be transferred.
What You Need to Activate
The activation page asks for two things: the last four digits of your United Chase card and your MileagePlus number. United's page says to use the last four digits of the card displayed in the communication you received for this promotion, so if you hold more than one United card, pull up that message first.
Reread that message before you plan any spending around this. After you activate, United sends a confirmation email to the address in your MileagePlus profile.
The Terms to Know Before You Spend
Here's the fine print to read before you put any spending on the card:
- Purchases only. Balance transfers, cash advances, cash-like transactions (money orders, wire transfers, cryptocurrency and similar), betting, person-to-person transfers, interest and fees, including the annual fee, don't count.
- Refunds come off the total. Returns and refunds posted during the offer period are deducted, whatever the date of the original purchase.
- Late posting. A merchant delay, such as shipping, can push a purchase's posting date past December 31.
- Keep the card as it is. A product change before the bonus is deposited forfeits the offer, and the account has to be open and not in default when the bonus is deposited.
- Partner emails. Activating signs you up for MileagePlus partner emails if you aren't already subscribed. You can unsubscribe from the link in those emails or change your preferences in your MileagePlus account.
When the Miles Show Up
The bonus posts to your MileagePlus account, not your card statement. United asks you to allow 6 to 8 weeks after you finish the qualifying activity. Bonus miles from non-flight activity like this don't count toward Premier status unless United expressly says otherwise.
If you don't have a United card yet, this offer won't apply to you, though a new card like the United Explorer comes with its own welcome bonus. Our roundup of Chase's current United card welcome bonuses covers each card's new-cardmember offer, and our guide to the Chase United card lineup explains which card fits which kind of United flyer. If you're also chasing small MileagePlus bonuses this week, MileagePlus Shopping's 500-mile offer ends October 5.
Who Should Activate
If you received the offer, activate now: the deadline is December 15, 2026, 11:59 p.m. CT. Then reread your offer message and weigh it against what you'd charge to the card anyway by December 31. If earning the bonus would take spending you weren't planning, skip it.
