Legend of the Seas and Star of the Seas are close to the same size on paper. Royal Caribbean lists Star at 248,663 gross tons and about 5,610 guests at double occupancy, and Legend at 250,800 gross tons and about 5,628. Both belong to the Icon Class, so the pools, the Category 6 waterpark and the Surfside family neighborhood show up on each. What changes is where they sail, what's on the stage and which supper club is on board.

Here's how Royal Caribbean's own ship pages line the two up, as read on October 26, 2026, and how to choose between them.

Size and Debut

Royal Caribbean's ships-by-age guide gives Star of the Seas a 2025 debut. It gives Legend of the Seas a 2026 debut. Icon of the Seas, the class's first ship, shares Star's tonnage and guest count in that guide. For how these figures compare across the whole fleet, see our Royal Caribbean ships by size guide.

Where Each Ship Sails

Star sails from Port Canaveral, which Royal Caribbean's page also calls Orlando. It lists weeklong Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries with calls at San Juan, St. Kitts and Cozumel, and says every sailing stops at Perfect Day CocoCay.

Legend changes homes with the season. Royal Caribbean's Legend page lists summer Mediterranean cruises from Barcelona and Rome (Civitavecchia), visiting Spain, France and Italy. In winter it lists Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale on Western and Southern Caribbean itineraries, with stops at Perfect Day CocoCay. Check the sailing date before you book, because the ship's port depends on the season.

What the Two Share

Both ship pages list seven pools and 10 whirlpools, the Category 6 waterpark and 17 complimentary places to eat. Royal Caribbean's Icon Class guide says the class has the largest suite neighborhoods in its fleet, and that Category 6 has six waterslides. It also says Crown's Edge puts guests 17 stories (154 feet) above the ocean, and that AquaTheater performers dive from a 55-foot-tall waterfall.

Shows and Restaurants

This is where the two ships differ most. Star's musical is Back to the Future: The Musical, and its supper club is the Lincoln Park Supper Club. Legend stages Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The Musical and America's Got Talent LIVE on Legend of the Seas, and its supper club is the Hollywoodland Supper Club.

Royal Caribbean's Icon Class guide also lists a supper-train dining experience, Royal Railway, on Legend. Legend's ice skating show is called Fusion.

Royal Caribbean counts dining several ways on the Legend page, including 28 ways to dine in one place and more than 40 ways to dine and drink in another. Compare the restaurant lists rather than the totals.

Suites and Family Rooms

The rooms pages for both ships describe the Ultimate Family Townhouse the same way. It sleeps up to eight, with three full bathrooms, a dining room and kitchenette, a cinema with a large day-bed, an in-suite slide and direct access to Surfside from its patio.

Both pages also list the Family Infinite Ocean View Balcony, which sleeps up to six, along with the Surfside Family Suite and the Sunset Corner Suite. Star's page counts 10 suite categories, and both pages name the Royal Loft and an Icon Loft.

Which Ship to Book

Start with the itinerary. Both ships sail the Caribbean from Florida, so pick by home port: Star sails from Port Canaveral, and Legend sails from Fort Lauderdale in winter. For the Mediterranean in summer, Legend's page is the one that lists Barcelona and Rome. When the itinerary doesn't decide it, the shows will: Back to the Future for Star, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and America's Got Talent LIVE for Legend.

Open the sailing you're considering on Royal Caribbean's site, confirm the ship and the port for your dates, then read that ship's restaurant and show lists. If you want to see how the line's earlier big-ship class lays out its rooms and dining, our Oasis of the Seas ship guide covers it.
