IHG One Rewards points work at participating Iberostar Beachfront Resorts the same way they work at most IHG hotels: you earn 10 points per US dollar on a qualifying stay, and you can redeem points for Reward Nights at more than 40 all-inclusive Iberostar resorts. The catch is in the details. Room type, occupancy and the meal plan on an all-inclusive Reward Night vary by hotel, and extra guests can cost extra.
This guide covers what Iberostar is inside IHG, how earning works, how redeeming works, which elite perks apply, and the IHG cards that help you get there. Everything here comes from IHG's own terms, IHG's releases, and the card issuer's pages.
What Iberostar Beachfront Resorts Is
Iberostar Hotels & Resorts is a family-run hotel company based in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. In 2022, IHG and Iberostar signed a long-term commercial agreement for resort and all-inclusive hotels. Iberostar kept full ownership of its hotels.
IHG said in its 2022 announcement that up to 70 hotels, about 24,300 rooms, would join its system under the Iberostar Beachfront Resorts brand. It became IHG's 18th brand.
IHG's current brand page describes three offerings under the Iberostar name:
- JOIA by Iberostar, described as personalized service.
- Iberostar Selection, aimed at time with family and friends.
- Iberostar Waves, the beachfront playground side of the brand.
IHG also notes that the Iberostar Beachfront Resorts portfolio excludes any of Iberostar's interests in Cuba. If you see an Iberostar hotel in Cuba, it is not part of this arrangement.
Where the Resorts Are
The first properties joined IHG in December 2022. IHG named Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Brazil and the Canary Islands as the first locations, with more in Spain, Southern Europe and North Africa to follow.
IHG's 2023 releases named several specific resorts. Among them:
- Iberostar Grand Paraiso in Riviera Maya, Mexico.
- Iberostar Selection Hacienda Dominicus in Bayahibe, Dominican Republic.
- Iberostar Grand Rose Hall in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
- Iberostar Selection Anthelia in Tenerife, Spain.
- Iberostar Selection Albufera Playa in Mallorca, Spain.
- Iberostar Grand Bavaro in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
Participation is hotel by hotel. IHG's terms say that "participating" Iberostar Beachfront Resorts are part of IHG One Rewards, and they point to a current list on IHG's site. Check that list, or the hotel's own page on ihg.com, before you plan a trip around it.
How Earning Works
IHG's member terms set the base rate. Members earn 10 points per US dollar, or the local currency equivalent, on qualifying stays at most IHG branded hotels. Participating Iberostar resorts are part of the program, so a qualifying stay there earns at that rate.
Two terms matter here.
A qualifying stay. IHG defines a stay as one night or consecutive nights at the same hotel. It becomes a qualifying stay when you pay a qualifying rate. IHG lists qualifying rates as including most business and leisure rates, such as Advance Saver and Best Flexible rates, plus Reward Nights and certain other rates it names.
Where you book. IHG's terms list the channels that earn points. For Iberostar, that list includes the Iberostar website, the Iberostar Contact Center and IberostarPro, alongside IHG's own websites, the IHG One Rewards app and IHG Customer Care. The terms also say most member benefits are only available when you book through those channels.
IHG started letting members earn points at participating Iberostar resorts on June 29, 2023. Redemptions came later that year.
Eligible charges
IHG's terms also allow points on "eligible charges," which are charges on your hotel bill such as food and beverage, telephone, laundry and in-room movies charged to your room. IHG adds that eligible charges vary by brand and location.
At an all-inclusive resort, much of what you would normally charge to the room is already in the rate. So the room rate is where most of your points come from.
IHG Business Rewards
IHG's terms say plainly that IHG Business Rewards is not applicable at Iberostar Beachfront Resorts properties. If you book meetings or group travel through that program, plan on it not counting here.
How Redeeming Works
IHG announced in December 2023 that members could redeem points for Reward Nights at more than 40 participating all-inclusive Iberostar Beachfront Resorts. You book them on IHG.com or in the IHG One Rewards app.
That release also described the resort styles IHG members would find. Two of them matter when you are choosing where to spend points:
- Iberostar Grand resorts are for travelers 18 and older. IHG described them as all-suite resorts with butler service, spas and large pools.
- Coral Level at Iberostar Selection gives guests suites, restaurants and beach clubs reserved for Coral Level guests, inside a larger Selection resort.
If you are traveling with children, an adults-only Grand resort is off the list. If you want a quieter corner of a family resort, Coral Level is the option to price. In both cases, confirm what the Reward Night includes at that hotel, because a points booking may not map to the premium room category you have in mind.
The points price for a night is whatever IHG's booking engine shows on your dates. Search your exact dates before you count on a price.
The all-inclusive part needs a careful read. IHG's terms say:
Occupancy, room type, and meal plan configurations for Reward Nights at all-inclusive resorts will vary by brand and hotel.
The same section says extra person charges, including children, may apply beyond double occupancy. At Iberostar Beachfront Resorts specifically, members may be charged for additional guests who are not included in the original reservation.
In practice, that means three checks before you book:
- Who is covered. Look at how many adults and children the Reward Night includes at that hotel.
- What is covered. Confirm the meal plan attached to the Reward Night, since IHG says it varies.
- What is extra. IHG's terms also say members at Iberostar are responsible for any local or conditional taxes or fees on a Reward Night.
Adding everyone to the reservation up front is the simplest way to avoid a surprise at check-in.
Adding a guest who checks in without you
IHG's terms allow a member to add a secondary guest to a Reward Night or Free Night reservation, so that person can check in without the member present. It depends on local law. If the secondary guest's information is wrong, or local law does not permit it, that guest will not be able to check in.
Elite Perks at Iberostar
IHG listed the on-property benefits for members at participating Iberostar resorts when earning began in 2023:
- Early check-in for Platinum Elite and Diamond Elite members, subject to availability.
- Late check-out up to 2 p.m. for all members, subject to availability.
- Complimentary upgrades, subject to availability.
- Guaranteed room availability for Platinum Elite and Diamond Elite members.
- A welcome amenity for Platinum Elite (600 points or a $15 hotel credit) and Diamond Elite (600 points or a $20 hotel credit) members.
- Free internet for all members.
- Priority check-in at participating hotels.
IHG also said members who picked the Annual Lounge Membership as a Milestone Reward can use a lounge or Star Prestige facility for themselves and a guest, where available, at participating Iberostar resorts. That excludes Star Prestige guest rooms.
These are the perks IHG named in 2023. Benefits can change, so the current benefits chart on ihg.com is the one to check before a stay.
What All-Inclusive Means at Iberostar
IHG's Iberostar page describes the all-inclusive offer in broad terms. It lists live cooking stations, themed restaurants at select hotels, room service at select properties, drinks from breakfast cava to evening cocktails, a daytime activity program and nightly entertainment.
The words "select hotels" and "select properties" come up often. Themed restaurants and round-the-clock room service are not promised everywhere. If one of them matters to you, check the specific resort.
Judging the Value of an Iberostar Reward Night
It depends on the price IHG shows for your dates, and on who is traveling.
Here is how to judge it. Price the same nights two ways: in points on IHG.com, and in cash through IHG or Iberostar for the same room and the same number of guests.
Subtract any taxes and fees you would still owe on the Reward Night. Divide what is left by the points. That gives you a cents-per-point figure for that trip.
A few things tip the math:
- Couples usually fit the standard Reward Night. IHG's terms talk about charges beyond double occupancy, so two adults are the simplest case.
- Families need a closer look. Children may add extra person charges, depending on the hotel.
- Longer stays can help. The Chase IHG cards below include a fourth Reward Night free on a four-night redemption.
For how IHG points compare in general, our IHG One Rewards points value guide walks through redemption math.
The Cards That Earn IHG Points
Chase issues the IHG One Rewards cards. From Chase's card pages, read September 11, 2026:
IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card, $99 annual fee. New cardmembers can earn 140,000 bonus points after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months. Chase lists up to 26X total points per $1 at IHG Hotels and Resorts and 5X on gas and dining. It includes an Anniversary Free Night each account year, with a redemption cap of 40,000 points, and you can add points to book above that level.
IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card, no annual fee. New cardmembers can earn 80,000 bonus points after spending $2,000 on purchases in the first 3 months. Chase lists up to 17X total points per $1 at IHG Hotels and Resorts and 3X on gas and dining.
Both cards include the same redemption perk: when you redeem points for four consecutive nights at an IHG hotel, you can receive the fourth Reward Night free at that hotel during that stay.
Chase also lists status paths. The Premier card offers Diamond Elite Status for a calendar year after $40,000 in purchases. The Traveler card offers Gold Elite Status after $20,000.
Check whether the fourth-night benefit applies to the specific Iberostar Reward Night you want before you rely on it.
Chase Ultimate Rewards points also move to IHG One Rewards. Our Chase transfer partners guide covers that route.
How Iberostar Compares With Hyatt's All-Inclusives
World of Hyatt publishes an award chart, including for its all-inclusive resorts, so you can see the price before you search. At IHG, you search your dates. We cover Hyatt's chart in our World of Hyatt award chart guide, and we compared the two programs for one destination in our Punta Cana on points piece.
The practical difference is predictability. With Hyatt you know the price going in. With IHG you search your dates and see what comes back.
Promotions
IHG runs Iberostar promotions from time to time. The "Iberostar Up to 80k Points" offer page on ihg.com now shows "Promotion Ended" when you open it. Check IHG's current member offers page before booking, since a live promotion can change the math.
A Quick Checklist
Before you book an Iberostar stay with IHG points:
- Confirm the resort is a participating Iberostar Beachfront Resort on ihg.com.
- Book through a channel IHG lists as earning points, such as IHG.com, the IHG app or the Iberostar website.
- Check the Reward Night's room type, occupancy and meal plan for that hotel.
- Add every guest to the reservation.
- Budget for local or conditional taxes and fees.
- Compare the points price against the cash rate for the same room.
