Hive House, a 45-suite extended-stay hotel in Cary, North Carolina, opened September 24, 2026 as the first Hyatt-branded hotel in the town, Hyatt said in a release that day. It joins the Unscripted by Hyatt portfolio, which sits inside Hyatt's Essentials group alongside Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Caption by Hyatt, Hyatt Studios, Hyatt Select and UrCove.
The practical part for points members is simple. Hive House is a participating World of Hyatt property, so eligible stays earn and redeem points, and it counts as one of the five brands needed for the Brand Explorer Award.
What Hyatt Announced
The hotel is owned by CMC Hotels, a family-owned ownership, development and management company based in Cary. CMC developed Hive House independently before bringing it under the Hyatt umbrella, and Hyatt describes it as a different take on the traditional extended-stay format.
The suites run from 312 to 412 square feet with separate living spaces and full kitchens. Hyatt's release points to colorful interiors, curated artwork and social spaces as what distinguishes the property from a standard extended-stay box.
"We started with the experience we wanted to create, not with a traditional brand prototype," said Sheri Erhart, COO and Principal of CMC Hotels. "Hive House already had a strong identity and point of view. Joining the Unscripted by Hyatt brand gives us the opportunity to preserve what makes the hotel unique while introducing it to a much broader audience."
That's the whole logic of a soft brand. The owner keeps the design and the name, and Hyatt supplies distribution and the loyalty program.
On-property, Hyatt lists free Wi-Fi throughout the suites and public spaces, a fitness center with Peloton equipment, cardio machines with smart TVs, free weights, resistance bands and yoga mats, a multifunctional lobby, a 24/7 market and self-service laundry available 24 hours. Dogs are welcome under a 35-pound weight limit per pet, with a $75 fee per stay.
There's also a new Hive House Café stocking North Carolina makers, including Raleigh's Trophy Brewing, Chapel Hill's Griff's Toffee and Asheville's Poppy Popcorn.
Why It Matters for World of Hyatt Members
Hyatt's problem has never been the quality of its top-end properties. It's coverage. Hyatt's own count puts its portfolio at more than 1,500 hotels and all-inclusive properties in 83 countries as of June 30, 2026, and until this week none of them carried a Hyatt brand in Cary.
If you've been defaulting to a competitor there because Hyatt had nothing, that changed this week.
The Brand Explorer angle is the one worth flagging. Hyatt's release confirms that eligible stays at new participating brands count toward Brand Explorer, which awards a free night after a member experiences five unique Hyatt brands. So if Unscripted is missing from your tally, one night here fills it. Our guide to how hotel points work covers how free night certificates work if you're newer to the program.
Hyatt's redemption side runs on a published chart rather than dynamic pricing, which is the reason a lot of us pay attention to where new properties land. Our World of Hyatt award chart explainer walks through what each category and level costs, and searching your dates on hyatt.com shows what a night here costs in points.
"Hive House captures what Unscripted by Hyatt hotels are all about, a distinctive personality, a strong local point of view and an experience that is truly its own," said Jason Ballard, SVP, Global Brand Leader for Hyatt's Essentials Portfolio, in the announcement. "As the first Hyatt-branded hotel in Cary, Hive House also expands our portfolio in an important market and gives World of Hyatt members and guests a new way to experience the community."
What You Should Do
If you're heading to the Triangle, the booking page is live at hyatt.com under the Unscripted by Hyatt brand. Price the same night in cash and in points before you decide which to use.
A few things to watch. Check the award price on your dates before you plan a redemption around it. It's an extended-stay product with full kitchens, though Hyatt's suite descriptions pitch it for weekend breaks as well as longer stays. And the pet policy is specific: it welcomes dogs, with a 35-pound limit per pet and a $75 fee per stay.
One more piece of timing that matters if you fund Hyatt stays with transferred points. The Chase transfer ratio to World of Hyatt is changing, and we covered what happens to Chase to Hyatt transfers and which cards are affected. If you were planning to move points across for a Hyatt stay, read that first.
For most people, this is a bookmark rather than a booking. A single 45-suite hotel in Cary doesn't change anyone's program allegiance. But it's one more Hyatt in a market that didn't have one, it earns points, and it checks a brand off the Brand Explorer list. That's enough to keep in the file.
