As of October 1, 2026, Chase is emailing some Chase Sapphire Preferred cardholders a targeted offer to upgrade to the Chase Sapphire Reserve and earn 75,000 bonus points after $4,000 in spending. It's targeted, so check your inbox for it, and go by the deadlines printed in your own offer.
Deal Details
- The offer: 75,000 Ultimate Rewards points after you spend $4,000 within the window your offer sets, once you upgrade from the Preferred to the Reserve.
- Who gets it: selected Sapphire Preferred cardholders, by email. It's targeted.
- Read the fine print: some cardholders received an upgrade email with no bonus points attached. Check that yours names the 75,000 points before you accept.
- The cost: the Reserve's annual fee is $795, per Chase's card page.
How to Take Advantage
- Search your inbox for a Chase email offering an upgrade to the Sapphire Reserve.
- Confirm the bonus, the spending amount and the deadlines in that offer.
- Upgrade through the offer link, then put $4,000 of normal spending on the card before your deadline.
Why This Deal Matters
The public route to the Reserve is a new application, and Chase's application page currently offers 100,000 points after $6,000 in the first 3 months. That page also says Chase may consider how many cards you've opened and closed when deciding bonus eligibility. An upgrade changes the card you already hold instead of opening a new account, which is why it appeals if you've opened a lot of cards lately.
The catch is the fee. Going from the Preferred to the Reserve means paying $795 a year. The Reserve gives back value through credits like the $300 annual travel credit and up to $500 a year in credits for prepaid stays with The Edit, but only if you'd use them. Say the travel credit is the only one you'd use. Then the rest of the $795 is what you're paying for lounge access and higher earning, and the 75,000 points are the reason to try it for a year.

Who Should Take It
Take the upgrade if your email includes the 75,000 points, you'd spend $4,000 in the window anyway, and you'd use enough of the Reserve's credits to justify $795 a year. Skip it if your offer has no bonus or the fee would sit unused. Either way, check the Sapphire Reserve details before you decide.
