British Airways' first Starlink-equipped aircraft entered commercial service on March 19, 2026, when a Boeing 787-8 took off for Houston, Texas, BA said in its announcement that day. The flight marks the start of a two-year rollout that BA says will bring free Starlink Wi-Fi to its entire fleet of more than 300 aircraft, long-haul and short-haul, excluding BA Cityflyer.
The Starlink deal was first announced in November 2025 as part of BA's £7 billion transformation plan, BA said at the time. BA says the 787-8 fleet is going first.
What BA Has Confirmed
The airline has been explicit on three points, per its own Starlink page and press releases.
Access is free, in every cabin. BA's Starlink page says it's free for every customer and isn't limited to one device, so you can connect a phone, tablet and laptop at the same time. On BA's BAWi-Fi network, the messaging package is free for British Airways Club members, and BA says joining the Club is free.

The 787-8 Goes First, Then the Rest
BA said in March that it's in the process of fitting Starlink onto its 787-8 fleet, and its Wi-Fi page says more aircraft will follow over the coming months.
BA said in its November announcement that it's launching Starlink on both its long-haul and short-haul aircraft.
Since the 787-8s go first, the routes those aircraft fly are the ones to watch.
Why Free Access for Everyone Matters
BA's Starlink page says the service is free for every customer, in every cabin.
The practical effect: a passenger flying BA on a one-off paid ticket, or on an Avios redemption with a non-elite account, gets the same Starlink connectivity as every other customer on board.
The Competitive Picture
What stands out about BA is the combination of fleet size, hub position at Heathrow, and free access for every customer.
Within the IAG group, Aer Lingus, Iberia, LEVEL and Vueling are also part of the Starlink deal IAG announced in November 2025, though IAG says implementation plans will vary by airline. That means Avios redemptions across the group will increasingly carry the same Wi-Fi benefit, which strengthens the case for parking transferable points in the British Airways Club rather than spreading them across multiple programs.
How to Know If Your Aircraft Has It
BA's Starlink page says that on a Starlink flight you choose the BA Starlink network in your device's Wi-Fi settings, and if you're not connected automatically, you type Starlink.ba.com into your browser. BA says Starlink is being rolled out across its fleet over the next two years, so the simplest check is on board: if BA Starlink appears in your Wi-Fi settings, your aircraft has it.

Two things to track over the next six months. First, the pace: BA's two-year target covers a fleet of more than 300 aircraft, so the retrofit rate has to hold. Second, the short-haul fleet: BA says Starlink is coming to its short-haul aircraft too, so watch for when it reaches European routes.
