American Express doesn't hand out six-figure welcome bonuses often, but the Business Gold Card is currently offering up to 200,000 Membership Rewards points, one of the largest offers we've seen on this card. If you run a business (even a side hustle with an EIN or sole proprietorship) and have flexible spending coming up, this is worth a look before it disappears.
The Offer Details
The bonus requires $15,000 in spend within the first three months, and the $375 annual fee is not waived. That's a real hurdle, so this offer makes the most sense if you already have upcoming business expenses that would hit that number naturally, not if you're stretching to qualify.
One catch worth flagging: this is a variable, targeted offer. Amex shows you your specific bonus amount based on your profile during the application, and you can accept or decline before applying. Not everyone will see the full 200,000.
Why This Card Earns Its Keep After the Bonus
Beyond the welcome bonus, the card earns 4x points on the two business categories where you spend the most each billing cycle (choices include advertising, U.S. gas stations, wireless service, and transit), plus 3x on flights and prepaid hotels booked through AmexTravel. There's also a new $300 annual ChatGPT credit, up to $240 a year in FedEx, Grubhub, and office supply credits, and a Walmart+ membership credit worth roughly $155 a year if you use it.
Valued conservatively at 1.5 to 2 cents per Membership Rewards point, a 200,000-point bonus alone is worth $3,000 to $4,000 in transferable travel value, well above what the $375 fee costs you in year one.
How to Take Advantage
- Confirm you have a qualifying business (this can be as simple as freelance or gig income).
- Check your personalized offer on the Business Gold Card application.
- Map out $15,000 in spend you're already planning over the next three months before applying.
