U.S. Bank launched Protect 360 on October 7, 2026, a credit, identity and privacy monitoring service built into its mobile app and online banking. It comes in two tiers: Essentials, at no additional cost, and Premium, at $9.99 a month plus applicable sales tax.
Protect 360 replaces U.S. Bank's existing credit monitoring. The free tier covers TransUnion credit monitoring, dark web monitoring and data broker scans. Premium adds alerts from all three credit bureaus, automatic removal from data broker sites and up to $1 million in identity theft coverage.
What Essentials Includes
Essentials is free with your U.S. Bank account. U.S. Bank's product page lists:
- A weekly credit score, your full credit report and credit alerts, all from TransUnion
- Credit score factors and a credit score forecast
- A way to freeze your credit
- Dark web monitoring
- Scans of data broker sites, with guidance on removing your information yourself
- Debt analysis
The free score is a VantageScore from TransUnion. U.S. Bank says it's for educational purposes and isn't used by the bank to make credit decisions. Alerts need a TransUnion database match, and the bank says some enrolled members may not qualify for them.
What Premium Adds
Premium costs $9.99 a month plus applicable sales tax, with a U.S. Bank checking or savings account. It keeps everything in Essentials and adds credit alerts from TransUnion, Experian and Equifax. You also get alerts for address changes, high spending and your Social Security number, plus home title monitoring, scam call alerts and social media monitoring.
Two features do the most work. Premium removes your information from data broker sites automatically, where Essentials only shows you how to do it. And it includes identity theft recovery help with reimbursement of up to $1 million in eligible costs, under the Protect 360 Terms of Use.
Canceling Premium
You can cancel at any time in the app, in online banking, by calling 800-USBANKS (872-2657) or at a branch. U.S. Bank's FAQ says to cancel by 7:59 p.m. Pacific the day before your renewal date to avoid the next month's charge.
There's no partial refund for the rest of the month, except where the law requires one or the bank can't provide the service. You keep Premium features through the end of the billing cycle, then move back to the free Essentials plan.
What You Should Do
If you bank with U.S. Bank, turning on Essentials costs nothing. Log in to the U.S. Bank Mobile App or online banking, accept the Terms of Use and open your Protect 360 summary.
Before you pay for Premium, check what you already have. A credit freeze, a fraud alert and a credit lock do different jobs, and our guide to freezes, fraud alerts and locks explains which one you need. If you already pay for identity theft coverage somewhere else, compare its terms with U.S. Bank's before you add a second subscription.
U.S. Bank's release says Protect 360 adds value to everyday products including Smartly Checking, Smartly Savings and the Smartly Visa Signature card. Our U.S. Bank Smartly Visa Signature review covers the card.
The Bottom Line
Protect 360 replaces U.S. Bank's old credit monitoring, and Essentials is free, so there's no reason to skip it if you're a customer. Premium is the real decision at $9.99 a month plus tax. It's worth a look if you want three-bureau alerts, automatic data broker removal and up to $1 million in identity theft coverage in one place, and you don't already pay for the same things elsewhere.
