The Grand Hyatt Vail sits in Cascade Village at the east end of Vail's trail map, with a chairlift for hotel guests outside the building and a complimentary ski valet. It works as a ski-in, ski-out base, but it isn't in Vail Village itself: a shuttle runs to Vail Village and Lionshead.
Ski Access
The hotel's own chairlift is reserved for hotel guests and guests of nearby condos, which is the main reason to pick it over a hotel in the village. You walk out, click in and ride, with the ski valet handling your gear. If your priority is first chair and no lift line, this is the point of the property.
Location Trade-Offs
Cascade Village is a quieter pocket than Vail Village. Shops and restaurants aren't a walk from the front door, so plan on the shuttle for evenings in the village. If you want to step out of your hotel into restaurants and boutiques, a village hotel fits better. If you want the slopes first and the town second, Cascade Village does.
Rooms and Amenities
The hotel has 285 rooms and suites. Guests get a heated outdoor pool with hot tubs, which is the thing to look forward to after a day on the mountain, plus a fitness center and a spa. Ask the hotel directly about children's programs and family room setups before you book, since offerings change by season.
Booking With World of Hyatt Points
The Grand Hyatt Vail is a World of Hyatt property, so you can book it with points. Check the Hyatt app or award search for the category and the nightly price on your dates, because winter dates are likely to sit at the top of the chart. Our World of Hyatt award chart guide explains the award categories. Hyatt waives resort fees on award stays, so check what the hotel charges on a cash rate before you compare.
Is It Right for Your Trip?
Book the Grand Hyatt Vail if you ski every day and want the lift at your door. Pick a village hotel if you want dinner and shopping within walking distance. Either way, price your dates in cash and points before you commit.
