  • You earn 3 points per $1 on Southwest, 2 on gas and restaurants up to $8,000 a year combined, and 1 on everything else.

The Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Business Credit Card from Chase costs $149 a year. For that, Chase's card page lists 6,000 anniversary points, a free first checked bag, a boarding benefit and a new cardmember offer of 60,000 points after $3,000 in the first 3 months. Here's what you earn, what each perk requires, and who should look at a different Southwest card.

The Offer and the Fee

Chase's offer is 60,000 points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. Chase says to allow 6 to 8 weeks for the bonus to post to your Rapid Rewards account. The $149 annual fee is applied to your first billing statement.

Read Chase's list of what doesn't count toward the $3,000 before you plan the spending. It includes balance transfers, cash advances, cash-like transactions, person-to-person transfers and fees of any kind. Real business purchases are what count.

What You Earn

Chase lists three earn rates on purchases:

  • 3 points per $1 on Southwest Airlines purchases.
  • 2 points per $1 at gas stations and restaurants, on the first $8,000 in combined purchases per anniversary year.
  • 1 point per $1 on all other purchases.

You also get 6,000 bonus points each year after your cardmember anniversary. We value Rapid Rewards points at 1.44 cents each, the median of our own fare sample on September 8, 2026, so you can price those points against the $149 fee before you've booked a flight.

Chase lists one more earning feature: 2,000 tier qualifying points toward A-List status for every $5,000 you spend, through December 31, 2026. From January 1, 2027, Chase's terms say you'll earn 1 tier qualifying point for each $1 spent on purchases.

The Perks and What Each One Requires

Each perk has conditions, and they matter more than the headline.

Free first checked bag. You and up to eight other passengers on the same reservation each get your first standard checked bag free. Put your Rapid Rewards number in the reservation, and allow up to 14 days after approval for your card status to update. It doesn't apply to flights booked with a partner carrier, and employee cards and authorized users aren't eligible. Chase's own example is a group of four saving up to $360 round trip.

Seat selection. Within 48 hours of departure, you can pick a Standard or Preferred seat when one is available, for yourself and up to eight others on the reservation. If none is open, you're seated under your ticket's fare rules.

Boarding. You board with Group 5, or earlier if your status, fare or seat qualifies you, and up to eight passengers on your reservation board with Group 5. It applies on Southwest-operated flights only.

Discounts. Chase lists a 15% flight discount promo code each year on your cardmember anniversary (it excludes the basic fare) and 25% back on inflight purchases.

How It Compares With the Other Southwest Cards

The personal version of this card carries the same $149 fee. Our Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier card review covers it, and it's the better pick when the spending is yours rather than a business's.

If you want more from the same family, the Southwest Performance Business card review covers the $299 card. Chase lists 9,000 anniversary points on it and 2,500 tier qualifying points per $5,000 spent through December 31, 2026, so it only makes sense if you'll use both.

Who Should Skip It

This card is thin if you fly Southwest once a year or less. Without checked bags to save on, the 6,000 anniversary points are most of the value. A solo traveler with a carry-on gets little from the perks.

It also won't help if your business spending sits mostly in categories that earn 1 point per $1. Only Southwest purchases, gas stations and restaurants earn more, and the 2-point rate stops at $8,000 a year in combined purchases.

The Decision

If your business flies Southwest and checks bags, the free first checked bag for you and up to eight others on a reservation can cover the fee in one trip, by Chase's own example of up to $360 saved round trip for a group of four. If it doesn't, one of the other Southwest cards or a flexible-points card will likely serve you better.
