HSBC is offering limited-time welcome offers on its two U.S. rewards credit cards: 75,000 Welcome Bonus Points on the HSBC Elite credit card and 60,000 on the HSBC Premier credit card, each after you spend $4,000 in the first 3 months. HSBC's terms say the offers apply only to applications submitted from October 1, 2026, through January 15, 2027.

There's a gate before any of that matters. HSBC says that to apply for either card, "you must have an existing U.S. HSBC Premier checking account." If you don't bank with HSBC Premier already, these offers start with opening a checking relationship, not a card application. If you do, the window is open now, and the sections below cover the fees, the terms and who is shut out.

What HSBC Is Offering

Both offers sit on HSBC's own card pages, and both are labeled limited-time. Here's what HSBC lists for each card:

  • HSBC Elite credit card: 75,000 Welcome Bonus Points after $4,000 in purchases within the first 3 months. HSBC says the points are worth up to $900 in travel when booked through HSBC Travel. The annual fee is $495, and $0 for authorized users.
  • HSBC Premier credit card: 60,000 Welcome Bonus Points after $4,000 in purchases within the first 3 months. HSBC says they're worth up to $625 in travel when booked through HSBC Travel. The annual fee is $95, and $0 for authorized users.

HSBC's terms also cover applications outside those dates: they'll be considered for what HSBC calls its standard offer, 60,000 Welcome Bonus Points on the Elite and 50,000 on the Premier, provided the same criteria are met.

Neither card charges a foreign transaction fee, according to HSBC.

Who Can Apply

This is the part most readers will trip over. HSBC states the requirement the same way on both pages: "You must have an existing U.S. HSBC Premier checking account."

The fine print words it a little differently for each card. The Elite requires "a qualifying U.S. HSBC Premier or Private Bank Relationship," and the Premier requires "a U.S. HSBC Premier relationship." On both pages, HSBC says Private Bank customers should contact their Relationship Manager to apply, and it points to its Premier checking page for the full list of Premier relationship requirements.

If you already have Premier checking, HSBC says you can log on and apply online.

The Terms That Can Cost You the Bonus

Read these before you apply, because each one can stop the points from posting.

HSBC says customers who have opened the same credit card product within the last 36 months aren't eligible for the Welcome Bonus Points. Only new purchases count toward the $4,000, minus returns, credits and adjustments. The bonus offers don't apply to account upgrades, account transfers, balance transfers, credit card checks, cash advances or overdrafts.

The card must be open and in good standing when the points are fulfilled. HSBC defines the promotional period as the first 3 months from account opening, and says to allow four to six weeks after it ends for the points to post. HSBC also says the offer may be amended, suspended or withdrawn at any time without prior notice.

How the Points Earn After the Bonus

The two cards are built for different spending.

The Elite earns 5X points on eligible travel (airlines, car rental agencies and hotels), 2X on dining and other travel, and 1X on everything else. HSBC lists up to $400 a year in travel credits, earned as $100 for every $2,000 in travel booked through HSBC Travel. The card also carries up to $120 toward Global Entry, TSA PreCheck or NEXUS once every 4.5 years, and unlimited Priority Pass lounge access for the cardholder and up to 2 guests, though HSBC's terms say lounge visit fees may apply. Our Priority Pass guide covers how the network works if lounges are the draw.

The Premier earns 3X points on gas and groceries, 2X on travel and 1X on everything else. HSBC lists up to $60 a year in streaming statement credits and up to $85 toward Global Entry, TSA PreCheck or NEXUS once every 4.5 years.

On both cards, HSBC's Rewards for Miles program lets you transfer points to 11 airline and 2 hotel loyalty programs. HSBC notes that the conversion rate may vary by program and that transfers can't be reversed.

What to Do Now

If you already hold U.S. HSBC Premier checking, the decision is mostly about the fee. The Elite's $495 makes sense if you'd book travel through HSBC Travel often enough to use the travel credits and you'd use Priority Pass. The Premier at $95 suits someone whose spending runs to gas and groceries. Either way, check that you haven't opened the same card in the last 36 months, and plan the $4,000 in purchases so it lands inside the first 3 months.

If you don't have Premier checking, these offers aren't a reason on their own to open it. Look at the checking account's requirements first, on HSBC's Premier checking page, and decide whether you'd want that account anyway.

HSBC's window for these offers closes for applications after January 15, 2027.
