The Global Entry app on your phone stops working on September 15, 2026. CBP's replacement is a single app called Trusted Traveler, and it's already live in the Apple App Store and Google Play. You don't need to reapply for anything. You do need to download the new app before your next international arrival if you use your phone to clear customs.

Here's what's changing, what isn't, and the one step to take this week.

What CBP Announced

U.S. Customs and Border Protection launched the new app on September 9, 2026. Its release says the Trusted Traveler App "brings the capabilities of two previously available apps into one official app."

Those two apps are the Global Entry mobile app, which members used to confirm their arrival at a U.S. airport, and the Trusted Traveler Programs app, which handled applications and account changes.

CBP's app page sets the date: "Beginning September 15, 2026, the new Trusted Traveler mobile app will replace the Global Entry mobile app and Trusted Traveler Programs mobile app." Both old apps "will stop functioning on September 15, 2026."

The release, dated six days earlier, already says "the previously available apps have been discontinued." So don't count on the old app still working when you land. Treat September 15 as the last day at best.

"Having one official app to support all of our services makes every step of the journey less complicated for travelers," said Diane J. Sabatino, executive assistant commissioner of CBP's Office of Field Operations, in the release.

Your Membership Isn't Changing

This is an app change, not a program change. CBP's page is blunt about it: "Your Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, or FAST membership is not being replaced. Only the mobile apps are changing."

That means:

  • No new application. CBP says "You do not need to reapply for Global Entry."
  • No new account. You sign in with the credentials you already use, and CBP says "your profile and membership information will transfer."
  • Your expiration date stays put. Nothing on CBP's page resets or extends a membership.

If you're partway through an application, the new app handles that too. CBP's release says it "helps travelers manage their applications to Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, or FAST."

What the New App Does

Per CBP's release, the Trusted Traveler App lets you:

  • Manage an application to Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI or FAST.
  • Update your membership details.
  • Schedule an enrollment interview.
  • Renew a membership.
  • Confirm your international arrival with CBP at a supported U.S. airport, for Global Entry members.

That last one is the feature most travelers actually use. It's what replaced stopping at a kiosk on arrival.

CBP says 85 airports and multiple Preclearance locations support the new app today. Its page adds that "availability may depend on eligibility and location," so a kiosk or an officer is still the fallback where the app isn't supported.

What to Do Before Your Next Trip

Download the Trusted Traveler app now. Search for it by name in the Apple App Store or Google Play. It's free, per CBP.

Sign in with your existing login. Use the credentials tied to your Trusted Traveler Programs account. Your membership should appear once you're in.

Check your membership date while you're there. A Global Entry membership runs five years, per CBP's Global Entry page, and the renewal now lives in the same app.

Delete the old apps after September 15. CBP says they'll stop working, so there's no reason to keep two icons that look alike.
