Delta is adding two new nonstop routes from Los Angeles and putting more daily flights on seven others, in what it calls its largest-ever schedule at LAX. The announcement landed September 18 and stretches from this December into summer 2027.
The two new routes
Monterey comes first. Delta starts twice-daily nonstop service from LAX on December 19, 2026, flown by Delta Connection on an Embraer 175. It's a short California hop, and Delta launches daily Salt Lake City to Monterey service the same day.
Philadelphia is the bigger one. Daily nonstop service begins June 7, 2027, on an Airbus A321neo. It's the only new city on the list outside California, and it starts the same day San Diego goes to five daily.
Where the extra flights go
Seven cities get more daily departures from LAX:
- Raleigh-Durham, to two daily from April 12, 2027
- Boston, to five daily from May 6, 2027
- San Diego, to five daily from June 7, 2027
- Cincinnati, to two daily from July 11, 2027
- Houston, to three daily from July 11, 2027
- San Antonio, to three daily from July 11, 2027
- Seattle, to eight daily from July 11, 2027
Seattle at eight daily is the one to note. It's the biggest frequency on the list, and it lands on July 11, 2027, the same day as Cincinnati, Houston and San Antonio.
The number Delta is selling, and what's inside it
Delta's headline figure for the summer 2027 peak is more than 200 daily departures from LAX to nearly 70 destinations.
Read the wording. Delta's release says "Delta and its partners will offer more than 200 daily departures," so that number includes partner airlines rather than Delta metal alone. It's a real measure of what a traveler can book on a Delta itinerary, but it isn't a count of Delta's own flights.
The premium angle
The release spends as much effort on the front of the aircraft as on the route map. Delta says it offers more premium seats at LAX than any other airline, and that by 2028 it will have four dedicated lounge spaces at the airport totaling more than 60,000 square feet and more than 1,000 seats.
There's also a new curated wine program for Delta One customers starting October 1.
Amy Martin, Delta's Vice President of Network Planning, framed the expansion around California access. Courtney Moore, Chief Revenue and Experience Officer at Los Angeles World Airports, said airline investment in connectivity strengthens Los Angeles as a global destination.
Why LAX, and why now
The Points Guy calls Los Angeles one of America's most competitive cities for air travel, and each of the Big Three, Delta, American and United, has a hub at LAX. Citing Cirium, TPG reports that Delta will offer more flights from LAX than any other carrier this year.
Delta describes itself as Los Angeles' number one airline in this release. Philadelphia is the sharpest move in the set: Monterey stays in-state, and the other seven are routes Delta already flies.
What it means if you fly Delta
For SkyMiles members on the West Coast, the practical effect is more same-day options on routes you already fly, particularly Seattle, Boston and San Diego. More frequency is usually worth more than a new destination to a frequent traveler, because it's what makes a missed connection recoverable.
If you're in Monterey, December 19 brings two Delta links at once: twice daily to LAX and daily to Salt Lake City.
Philadelphia is the one to watch over the next year. Delta announced it for June 2027, which is far enough out that the schedule can still move.
