As of October 1, 2026, the American Airlines AAdvantage MileUp Card from Citi offers 15,000 AAdvantage bonus miles and a $100 statement credit after $500 in purchases in the first 3 months. The card has no annual fee, and American's card page labels it a new bonus offer.

Deal Details

  • The bonus: 15,000 AAdvantage bonus miles plus a $100 statement credit.
  • What it takes: $500 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.
  • The fee: $0 annual fee.
  • The 48-month rule: you can't get the bonus if you've received a new account bonus on a MileUp account in the past 48 months, or converted another Citi card on which you earned a new account bonus in the last 48 months into a MileUp.
  • Where you live: American's page says the offer is only for people who live in the United States and its territories, excluding Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Both Citi's and American's pages warn the offer "may not be available if you leave this page" and that offers may vary.

How to Take Advantage

  1. Check the 48-month rule against your own history with the MileUp.
  2. Apply through Citi's or American's MileUp page while it shows 15,000 miles and the $100 credit.
  3. Put $500 of normal spending on the card within the first 3 months.

What the Card Earns After the Bonus

  • 2 miles per $1 on eligible American Airlines purchases.
  • 2 miles per $1 at grocery stores, including grocery delivery services.
  • 1 mile per $1 on everything else.
  • 1 Loyalty Point for every eligible mile earned from purchases, which counts toward AAdvantage status.
  • 25% savings on inflight food and beverage purchases on American flights when you pay with the card.

Citi's page is clear about what's missing: the first checked bag isn't free, preferred boarding isn't included and there's no lounge access. Foreign purchases cost 3%, so leave it home when you travel abroad.

Why This Deal Matters

For a $0 card, $500 of spending is a low bar. Say your grocery bill runs $500 over the first three months. That spending alone would meet the requirement, and at 2 miles per $1 it would add 1,000 miles on top of the 15,000.

If you fly American often enough to want a free checked bag, the card to compare is the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select, which American's page lists with the first checked bag free on domestic American itineraries. For lounge visits, the Citi AAdvantage Globe comes with four Admirals Club Globe passes a year.

Who Should Apply

Apply if you want an American Airlines card with no annual fee, you haven't had a MileUp bonus in 48 months and $500 in three months is ordinary spending for you. Skip it if you check bags on American more than once or twice a year, since the MileUp won't cover them.
