As of October 2, 2026, the U.S. Amex Platinum Card and the U.S. Amex Business Platinum Card no longer get you into Lufthansa lounges. Amex's terms for both cards say that effective October 1, 2026, Card Members "will not have access to any Lufthansa Lounges." The rest of the Amex Global Lounge Collection is still in place: Centurion Lounges, Delta Sky Club visits, Priority Pass, Escape Lounges and Plaza Premium.

If you've got a trip on Lufthansa, SWISS or Austrian coming up and you were counting on your Platinum card at the lounge door, that plan is gone. Here's what changed, what you can still use, and how to get into a Lufthansa lounge now.

What Changed on October 1

Through September 30, 2026, Amex's terms gave Platinum and Business Platinum Card Members complimentary access to select Lufthansa Business Lounges, regardless of ticket class, and to Lufthansa Senator Lounges when flying business class. You had to be on a same-day Lufthansa Group flight (Lufthansa, SWISS or Austrian Airlines) and show your Platinum card, a government-issued ID and your boarding pass.

That benefit ended on October 1. Amex announced the change in April.

A couple of details for anyone checking old trip plans:

  • Companion Platinum Cards on consumer accounts, and Additional Gold and Business Expense Cards on Business Platinum accounts, weren't eligible for the Lufthansa benefit.
  • The change covers both the consumer Platinum Card and the Business Platinum Card. Amex uses the same wording in both cards' terms.

What Your Platinum Card Still Gets You

Amex says the Global Lounge Collection covers more than 1,550 airport lounges, and both cards' terms still list these:

Centurion Lounges. Unlimited complimentary access to every Centurion Lounge location, as long as you arrive within three hours of your departing flight. For Europe trips, the newest one is at Amsterdam Schiphol, which Amex opened on September 17 as the 33rd Centurion Lounge. We covered the Amsterdam Centurion Lounge when it opened.

Delta Sky Club. Ten Visits per card each year, used on a same-day Delta-operated flight (or a Delta-marketed flight operated by WestJet), and not on Delta Main Basic (Basic Economy) fares. A Visit covers up to 24 hours from your first entry.

Priority Pass. Membership comes with both cards, but you have to enroll through your Amex account or by calling the number on the back of your card first.

Escape Lounges and Plaza Premium. Complimentary access to all Escape Lounge locations and to any Plaza Premium Lounge worldwide. At Plaza Premium, you can bring up to two companions as complimentary guests.

Our Platinum lounge access guide has the guest rules and entry fine print for each network.

How to Get Into a Lufthansa Lounge Now

Without the Amex benefit, Lufthansa's own rules decide whether you get in. Lufthansa's lounge page says access "depends on the booking class of your flight ticket or the privileges afforded by your status."

If you're flying economy on Lufthansa, SWISS or Austrian, check your departure airport for a Priority Pass or Plaza Premium location before you go. Lufthansa's site lists its lounges and the admission rules for each one.

What to Do If You Hold a Platinum Card

Look at any Lufthansa Group trip you've booked from October onward and plan your lounge time before you get to the airport. If your route runs through Amsterdam, the Centurion Lounge there is the obvious stop. Everywhere else, it's Priority Pass or Plaza Premium, or a booking class or status that earns Lufthansa lounge access on its own.
