Amex's pages for the Blue Business Plus and the Blue Business Cash now lead with bigger welcome offers: as high as 50,000 Membership Rewards points on the Plus, or as high as a $500 statement credit on the Cash, after you spend $5,000 in the first 3 months. Read "as high as" closely. If you're approved, Amex shows you the exact amount before you accept the card, and it may be lower. Both cards have a $0 annual fee.
Deal Details
- Blue Business Plus: as high as 50,000 Membership Rewards points after $5,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of Card Membership.
- Blue Business Cash: as high as a $500 statement credit after $5,000 in purchases within the first 3 months.
- It varies by applicant. After you apply and before you accept the card, Amex tells you the exact amount, which may be less than the maximum. Amex's terms also say you may not be eligible for a welcome offer at all.
- The earlier offer. The public Plus offer before this was 15,000 points.
- Past holders. Amex's terms say you may not be eligible for the welcome offer if you have or have had that card or previous versions of it.
- What counts toward the $5,000. Purchases by you and by employee cards on the account count. Fees, interest, traveler's checks, prepaid cards, gift cards, person-to-person payments and other cash equivalents don't.
- When it pays. Amex credits the points or the statement credit 8 to 12 weeks after you reach the $5,000.
- End date. We don't have an end date for either offer, so check Amex's page when you apply.

How to Take Advantage

- See your offer. Amex shows the exact amount before you accept the card.
- Accept, then put $5,000 of eligible business purchases on the card within the first 3 months.
Why This Deal Matters
Both cards earn the same way: 2X points or 2% cash back on the first $50,000 of eligible purchases each calendar year, then 1X or 1%.
The difference is the payout. Amex says Membership Rewards points from the Plus can go to travel, a statement credit or gift cards, or transfer to airline and hotel loyalty programs. If your business can put $5,000 on a card in 3 months and you've never held the card, apply for the one that matches how you redeem. If you'd transfer points, that's the Plus. If you want cash with no steps, it's the Cash. If you've held the card before, skip it.
