American Airlines and Hyatt are ending their loyalty partnership. Both companies said on September 9, 2026 that they had "mutually decided to not continue" the relationship. The key date for members is November 15: link your AAdvantage and World of Hyatt accounts by then to keep earning through the wind-down.
If your accounts are already linked, you do not need to do anything today. If they are not, the next two months are your last chance to get the remaining benefit.
What American and Hyatt Said
The statement is short, and the two companies published the same text. You can read it on the American Airlines Newsroom and the Hyatt Newsroom.
It says both programs will preserve what members can earn through the current earning year in each program. That includes the standard time to select an award after it has been earned.
For the rest of each program's current earning year, members "will see no interruption in earning, selecting and redeeming their eligible benefits."
The Dates That Matter
There are three, and they apply to different members.
November 15, 2026. This is the linking deadline. For AAdvantage members, the cutoff is 11:59:59 p.m. Central time. Accounts linked by then keep earning through the dates below.
December 31, 2026. World of Hyatt members who linked by November 15 can keep earning AAdvantage awards through Milestone Rewards until this date.
February 28, 2027. AAdvantage members who linked by November 15 can keep earning World of Hyatt awards through Loyalty Point Rewards until this date.
That is the whole schedule. The statement gives no other dates.
What Each Side Loses
The relationship let each program reward the other's members. The statement names the two ways that happened, and both are ending.
AAdvantage members earned World of Hyatt awards through Loyalty Point Rewards, on the American side. That stops after February 28, 2027 for members who linked in time.
World of Hyatt members earned AAdvantage awards through Milestone Rewards, on the Hyatt side. That stops after December 31, 2026 for members who linked in time.
If you never linked the accounts, you were not earning either of these. The deadline is about whether you get the last few months.
What Stays
One thing survives the breakup, and it is easy to miss.
AAdvantage members can keep choosing to earn 500 AAdvantage miles instead of World of Hyatt points on eligible Hyatt stays. You do this by giving your AAdvantage number at check-in. The statement says this continues "even after the broader relationship concludes."
Whether 500 miles beats the Hyatt points on a given stay depends on the stay. The option is there if you are close to an award on American.
What to Do Before November 15
Keep it simple.
- Check whether your accounts are linked. This applies if you have both an AAdvantage and a World of Hyatt account.
- Link them if they are not. The deadline is 11:59:59 p.m. Central time on November 15, 2026 for AAdvantage members. Linked accounts keep earning to the dates above.
- Pick any awards you have earned. The statement promises the standard time to select an award after it has been earned. Do not wait until the last week.

Where Hyatt Goes Next
The same day, Hyatt and Delta announced a new long-term loyalty partnership. When it launches, eligible elites will earn in both World of Hyatt and Delta SkyMiles. Neither company has given a launch date yet.
