American Airlines resumed daily flights between Miami (MIA) and Cap-Haitien (CAP) on November 1, 2026, after nearly two years without service to Haiti. American counts Cap-Haitien as its 100th destination in Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America.
The Flights
American said in its June announcement that it would fly Miami to Cap-Haitien daily on Boeing 737 aircraft with premium cabin seating and free Wi-Fi. It added that travelers from cities such as New York and Orlando could connect to Cap-Haitien in Miami. American suspended its Haiti flights in late 2024, after commercial aircraft were hit by gunfire near Port-au-Prince.
The other new city in American's milestone announcement was Maracaibo, Venezuela, which American planned to serve from Miami starting July 14. We covered another of its Venezuela additions in American's Miami to Barcelona, Venezuela, route.
What to Know Before You Book
Port-au-Prince is still off limits to U.S. carriers. An FAA order bars U.S. airlines from flying below 10,000 feet over part of Haiti that includes the capital. It runs until March 2, 2027. Cap-Haitien lies outside that area. Check the State Department's travel advisory for Haiti before you book.
