Why Alaska Is Using a 737 MAX 8

Alaska's FAQ says the MAX 8 has a longer range than the MAX 10 and is the only 737 in its fleet capable of serving this route. Alaska says Atmos Rewards members get free Wi-Fi, thanks to T-Mobile, on select flights while it keeps installing Starlink Wi-Fi across its MAX 8 narrowbody fleet.

What You Get Onboard

First Class has priority boarding, recliner seats and multi-course dining that starts with Alaska's Signature Charcuterie. Alaska lists Filson-designed blankets, pillows and a Filson travel amenity kit with Salt & Stone products. First Class guests can also use the Alaska Lounge in Anchorage.

Main Cabin and Premium Class guests get a complimentary meal with a hot entree and dessert, and vegetarian options are available. Premium Class guests also get a curated selection of complimentary West Coast non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages.

The Fare and the Other New Routes

Introductory round-trip fares from Anchorage to Tokyo Narita start at $999 for travel between May 13 and June 7, 2027, subject to availability. Round-trip purchase is required, terms apply, and tickets are on sale at alaskaair.com and hawaiianairlines.com.

The other new Anchorage routes each run once a week, on Saturdays, from June 12 through August 7, 2027. Alaska says that together with Tokyo they make up its largest nonstop schedule from the state of Alaska in the airline's history. Alaska is also planning to mark 95 years of service next year.

What to Do Before October 31

If your dates fall between May 13 and June 7, 2027, price the introductory fares, which start at $999 and have to be bought by October 31. For other dates, check the fare on alaskaair.com before you decide. Because the route needs government approval, read the change and cancellation terms for your fare before you pay.
