  • Every Fine Hotels + Resorts stay booked through Amex Travel includes daily breakfast for two, a $100 property credit, guaranteed 4 p.m. checkout and an upgrade when available.
  • Only Platinum and Centurion Card Members can book Fine Hotels + Resorts, while Gold Card Members can use The Hotel Collection instead.
  • The Platinum Card's $600 hotel credit pays up to $300 in each half of the year, on prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts or Hotel Collection bookings only.

Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts is the luxury hotel program inside American Express Travel. It covers over 1,900 properties worldwide, and every stay an eligible Platinum or Centurion Card Member books there through Amex Travel comes with the same set of benefits: breakfast for two, a $100 property credit, guaranteed 4 p.m. late checkout and an upgrade when one is available. Amex puts the average total value of those benefits at $550 per stay, based on its 2025 bookings of two nights, and says actual value varies with the property, the rate and how you use them.

The Platinum Card adds a second layer: a $600 hotel credit that pays out in two halves and only on prepaid bookings. Here is what each booking includes, who can book, and how the credit works.

What Every Fine Hotels + Resorts Booking Includes

Amex lists these benefits for every Fine Hotels + Resorts stay booked through Amex Travel:

  • Daily breakfast for two
  • A $100 credit toward eligible charges, which vary by property
  • Guaranteed 4 p.m. late checkout
  • A room upgrade on arrival, when available (Amex says certain room categories are not eligible)
  • 12 p.m. check-in, when available
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi

Amex says there is no extra charge for these benefits; each eligible booking includes them. Some properties add a special offer on top, such as a complimentary night, a percentage off the rate or an extra credit toward eligible charges. Those offers carry their own booking dates, travel dates and minimum stays, so check the terms on the hotel's listing.

Who Can Book

Fine Hotels + Resorts is open to eligible U.S. Consumer, Business and Corporate Platinum Card Members and Centurion Members, plus Additional Platinum and Centurion Card Members on Consumer and Business accounts.

Gold Card Members can book The Hotel Collection, Amex's other hotel program. It requires a stay of at least two nights and includes a $100 credit toward eligible charges, 12 p.m. check-in and 4 p.m. late checkout when available, and an upgrade on select room categories when available.

The Platinum Card's $600 Hotel Credit

The Platinum Card from American Express and the Business Platinum Card each give up to $300 in statement credits semi-annually, January to June and July to December, for a total of up to $600 per calendar year. The $600 is per card account, so every card on the account shares it.

Only prepaid bookings count. Amex calls them "Pay Now" bookings, and they have to be made through American Express Travel at a Fine Hotels + Resorts or Hotel Collection property and paid with the card. Hotel Collection bookings need two consecutive nights. Amex says the credit usually posts within a few days but can take up to 90 days, and a refunded, canceled or changed booking can lose it.

Timing matters at the end of each half. On the consumer Platinum Card, a booking has to be processed by June 30 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time to count for January to June, and by December 31 for July to December.

Booking Through American Express Travel

You book on American Express Travel, through amextravel.com, the Amex Travel app, the Amex app or by phone. Amex Travel charges no booking fees. The Platinum Card earns 5X Membership Rewards points on prepaid hotels booked there, and you can use Pay with Points for all or part of a prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts stay instead.

Other Platinum Benefits for Hotel Stays

The Platinum Card also opens Amex's Global Lounge Collection, which Amex says covers over 1,550 airport lounges in more than 500 airports; Priority Pass needs enrollment. It also comes with Hilton Honors Gold status and Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status. Both need enrollment, and Amex says Marriott enrollment usually takes three to five business days. The card's annual fee is $895.

When Fine Hotels + Resorts Is Worth It

The benefits come with the hotel's Fine Hotels + Resorts rate, so compare that rate with the same room on the hotel's own site before you book. When the two are close, breakfast for two, the $100 credit and a guaranteed 4 p.m. checkout are worth having, and a prepaid booking can also use the $300 half-year credit. When the Amex rate is well above the hotel's, work out whether the benefits you will actually use cover the gap. If they don't, book direct.
