Thompson Rome opened on October 27, 2026, and it's the first Thompson Hotels property in Italy. Hyatt announced the 69-room hotel, set in a 1940s building on Via delle Botteghe Oscure, steps from Piazza Venezia and within walking distance of the Roman Forum, Pantheon and Colosseum. Hyatt's own brand description says guests can enjoy World of Hyatt benefits with eligible stays. Here's what the release lays out about the building, the rooms, the restaurants and the rooftop, plus where to book your dates.
The Building and the Location
Thompson Rome sits in what Hyatt's release calls a reimagined iconic landmark. The 1940s building has a sweeping marble staircase that was restored during the renovation. A sculptural wall and inlaid floor by Italian artist Gio Pomodoro were rediscovered during the work after decades hidden from view, and the hotel has preserved them.
The location is a short walk from several Rome landmarks. The release puts the hotel steps from Piazza Venezia and within walking distance of the Roman Forum, the Pantheon and the Colosseum. Chief Creative Officer Amar Lalvani said the goal was a Thompson hotel that feels at home in Rome, one that travelers want to discover and Romans want to come back to.
Rooms and Suites
The hotel has 69 guestrooms and suites. Of those, 19 are suites, which the release describes as nearly one-third of the accommodations. The mix includes Junior Suites, suites with patios or terraces, and the Thompson Suite, a 104-square-meter suite with an 80-square-meter private terrace.
Select rooms have views across Rome's historic rooftops and landmarks. Several rooms have balconies overlooking Via delle Botteghe Oscure, and select rooms have private patios facing historic buildings.
Artwork is part of the stay. The collection brings together works by artists associated with the Scuola Romana and the Scuola di Piazza del Popolo, alongside contemporary artists including Francesco Del Drago, Giangaetano Patanè and Guido Strazza. It hangs throughout the public spaces and guestrooms.
Dining and the Rooftop
Thompson Rome has three food and beverage venues. LYVE Restaurant is led by Executive Chef Fabio Fioravanti, who cooks contemporary Mediterranean food with seafood at the center of the menu. His background includes time with the Alain Ducasse group and at Le Louis XV in Monte-Carlo.
LYVE Rooftop serves cocktails, Italian aperitivi and a menu designed for sharing, from late afternoon into the evening. The Lobby Lounge runs through the day, from coffee and light fare to aperitivo and cocktails.
The hotel also plans a year-round program of culinary workshops, guided tastings and a rotating artist-in-residence program. One experience, Empire of Light, is a photography-led visit from the seventh floor that shows guests Rome from above. General manager Arturo Gomez said the hope is that the hotel becomes a starting point for experiencing Rome in a more personal way, and a place locals return to again and again.
