InterContinental Ambassador is a paid membership for people who stay at InterContinental hotels. It costs $225 a year, or 45,000 IHG One Rewards points, and nearly all of its perks work at that one brand. Whether it pays off comes down to one question: do you have a paid InterContinental stay coming up?
Check IHG's Ambassador page for the current price and terms before you join, since both can change.
What Ambassador Costs
The fee is $225 a year, or 45,000 IHG One Rewards points. You pick one or the other when you join.
What You Get
Ambassador members get these perks at InterContinental hotels:
- A guaranteed one-category room upgrade on paid stays.
- A guaranteed 4 p.m. late checkout.
- A complimentary weekend night certificate.
- A food and beverage credit per stay.
- IHG One Rewards Platinum Elite status.
The upgrade, the checkout guarantee, the credit and the weekend night are InterContinental benefits. Platinum Elite is the part that carries over to every other IHG brand. Our IHG One Rewards guide covers what Platinum earns and what it gets you.
How the Weekend Night Certificate Works
The certificate isn't a standalone free night. It covers the second night of a two-night weekend stay, and you book that stay on a special Ambassador weekend rate.
That means the math depends on the rate you'd otherwise book. Compare the Ambassador weekend rate with your usual option, and make sure it's bookable at your hotel for your dates before you pay for membership.
When a Hotel Misses a Guarantee
If a hotel doesn't give you the guaranteed 4 p.m. checkout, it owes you compensation, and 10,000 IHG One Rewards points is one of the options.
Who Ambassador Is Worth It For
It's worth a look if you have a paid weekend stay at an InterContinental coming up, especially at a hotel where the second night costs a lot. In that case the certificate can cover the fee on its own. The guaranteed 4 p.m. checkout helps if your flight leaves in the evening.
It's a harder sell if you mostly book award stays, sleep at other IHG brands or can't use the weekend rate. Then you're paying $225 mostly for Platinum Elite, and our IHG guide shows other ways to get that status.
Price one real InterContinental weekend with and without the Ambassador rate, then decide whether the membership pays for itself on that trip.
