Hyatt and Extell Development Company announced The StandardX Times Square, a hotel of approximately 1,800 rooms at 255 West 45th Street in Manhattan's Theater District. Hyatt says it's anticipated to open in the second half of 2028. It will be the first StandardX hotel in North America, and the building around it will carry an enclosed free-fall thrill ride, an observation deck more than 1,000 feet above Manhattan and a rooftop pool.
What Hyatt Announced
The StandardX is the younger sibling of The Standard, the lifestyle brand Hyatt describes as culturally driven. Hyatt says StandardX hotels keep the brand's culture, design and irreverence but make them simpler and more accessible, with simpler rooms and more casual service. Hyatt calls the Times Square property a flagship rather than a model for future hotels.
Extell Development Company, the New York developer, is developing the tower. Hyatt's release says the project builds on its longstanding relationship with Extell.
What the Building Will Have
According to the release, the building will bring together hospitality, dining and entertainment:
- An enclosed free-fall thrill ride high above the city.
- An observation deck more than 1,000 feet above Manhattan.
- A rooftop pool.
- A substantial lineup of restaurants, bars and nightlife venues, including a rooftop bar and lounge.
Hyatt says the design will draw on New York's theatrical character, with bold color, sculptural forms and reflective finishes. The image above is a rendering Hyatt released.
World of Hyatt and What Comes Next
Hyatt's description of the brand says World of Hyatt benefits apply with eligible stays at The StandardX hotels. Hyatt also says further details about the Times Square hotel, including its design, dining and nightlife concepts and creative collaborations, will be revealed at a later date.
