Key Points

  • Citi's page lists the Strata Premier at a $95 annual fee, with 3x ThankYou points at supermarkets, restaurants and gas.
  • The Globe and Executive pages list a free first bag for you and up to 8 companions plus Admirals Club access; Citi's FAQ says the Platinum Select does not provide lounge access.
  • Your spending categories, your travel companions and your lounge visits decide which card fits, and Citi's bonus rules differ by card.

Is the Citi Strata Premier better than a Citi AAdvantage card if you fly American Airlines? It comes down to where your spending goes, how many people travel with you, and whether you'd ever use an Admirals Club. Citi's own pages put the Strata Premier at a $95 annual fee, with 3x ThankYou points on supermarkets, restaurants, gas and air travel. The three AAdvantage cards list American-specific perks: a free first checked bag on domestic American itineraries and, on two of them, Admirals Club access.

Here's what each page lists, then how to tell which case you're in. The answer might even be both cards.

What the Citi Strata Premier Lists

Citi's page lists a $95 annual fee. It earns ThankYou points at these rates:

10x on hotels, car rentals and attractions booked on cititravel.com, 3x on air travel and other hotel purchases, 3x at restaurants, 3x at supermarkets, 3x on gas and EV charging, and 1x on everything else.

The travel perk is a $100 Annual Hotel Benefit. Once per calendar year you get $100 off a single hotel stay of $500 or more, excluding taxes and fees, booked through cititravel.com. Citi also lists no foreign transaction fees and travel protections like trip delay and lost or damaged luggage.

For American flyers, the line that matters is the transfer list. Citi's page names American Airlines, JetBlue, Virgin Atlantic, Cathay, Eva Air, Choice Hotels, The Leading Hotels of the World and others, with a 1,000-point minimum transfer. Confirm the transfer terms in your ThankYou account before you move anything.

What the AAdvantage Cards List

These three earn AAdvantage miles instead of ThankYou points. Citi's pages say you can redeem them for flights on American, oneworld and partner airlines, plus upgrades, car rentals and hotels.

  • Platinum Select: a $0 intro annual fee for the first year, then $99. Citi's October 27, 2026 release says the annual fee will be $150 as of January 24, 2027, still waived for the first 12 months (our fee-change article covers what changes). It earns 2 miles per $1 on eligible American purchases, restaurants and gas stations, and 1 mile on everything else. Your first checked bag is free on domestic American itineraries for you and up to 4 companions on the same reservation, with preferred boarding for the same group. Citi's FAQ says it does not provide lounge access.
  • Globe: 3 miles per $1 on eligible American purchases, 6 on eligible AAdvantage Hotels bookings, 2 at restaurants and 2 on rides and rails, with 1 on the rest. It lists 4 Admirals Club Globe Passes every calendar year for nearly 50 lounges, a free first bag and preferred boarding for you and up to 8 companions, and a Companion Certificate starting in your second cardmembership year as long as your cardmembership is renewed ($99 ticketing fee plus taxes and fees).
  • Executive: a $695 annual fee, and Citi's page lists 125,000 bonus miles after $15,000 in purchases in the first 5 months. It earns 4 miles per $1 on eligible American purchases, 12 on eligible AAdvantage Hotels and Cars bookings, and 1 on the rest. Citi calls it "the only card with Admirals Club membership," covering you and up to 2 guests or immediate family members at more than 100 lounges.

The co-brand pages also say you earn 1 Loyalty Point toward AAdvantage status for each eligible mile earned from purchases.

How to Tell Which Card Fits

Start with your last three statements and sort the spending into categories. If most of it lands at supermarkets, restaurants and gas, the Strata Premier lists 3x on all three. The Platinum Select lists 2x on restaurants and gas, and the Globe lists 2x on restaurants. If you charge a lot to American itself, the AAdvantage cards list 2x, 3x or 4x there, and the Strata Premier lists 3x on air travel.

Next, count the people on your reservations. The free first bag covers up to 4 companions on the Platinum Select and up to 8 on the Globe and Executive. If you usually fly alone, that difference is small.

Then count your lounge visits last year. If the answer is zero, skip this one. If it's a handful, the Globe lists 4 passes a year. If you'd go often or bring guests, the Executive lists a membership with up to 2 guests. Our guide to the best card for Admirals Club access goes deeper on that choice.

Finally, look at where your trips went. If it was all American, AAdvantage miles earn straight into the program you use. If you also flew JetBlue, Virgin Atlantic, Cathay or Eva Air, the Strata Premier's transfer list covers those too.

Check Bonus Eligibility Before You Apply

Citi's pages say offers may vary and may not be available in other places where the card is offered. The Executive's offer is stated above. For the other three cards, read the bonus on the Citi page you apply through.

The rules differ by card. Citi says the Strata Premier bonus isn't available if you currently have or previously had a Citi Strata Premier or a Citi Premier account. For the Platinum Select, Globe and Executive, it says the bonus isn't available if you received a new account bonus on that same card in the past 48 months, or converted a Citi account that earned a bonus in the last 48 months into it. Our Executive eligibility guide walks through that rule.

Which One to Apply For

If your spending sits in supermarkets, restaurants and gas, and your trips go beyond American, start with the Strata Premier. If you often fly American with more than 4 companions on one reservation, the Globe and Executive pages list a free first bag for up to 8, so start with one of those. If you're in both camps, carry one of each and let each earn in the categories its page lists.

If the Strata Premier fits, you can apply for the Citi Strata Premier Card. If a co-brand card fits better, the Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select lists a $0 intro annual fee for the first year, and the Citi / AAdvantage Globe lists 4 Admirals Club passes a year.
