The Cape Town EDITION is Marriott's first EDITION hotel in Africa, and EDITION's own site says it's now open, welcoming guests as of October 27, 2026. Set at Quay 7 on the V&A Waterfront, it faces Table Mountain and has 142 guestrooms and suites, a heated rooftop pool and a collection of restaurants and bars. Marriott shared the news in a release dated October 27, 2026, with brand leader George Fleck calling Cape Town a natural home for EDITION. Here's what the release lays out about the location, the design, the rooms, the dining, the spa and the event spaces, plus where to reserve.
Where It Sits
The hotel occupies Quay 7 in the V&A Waterfront's working harbor, according to Marriott's release. It overlooks the Waterfront's new superyacht marina and faces Table Mountain. Museums, art galleries and restaurants surround it.
V&A Waterfront CEO Graham Wood called the opening a strong expression of confidence in Cape Town as a tourism and investment destination. He also said it signals the next chapter for Granger Bay, a waterfront district. General Manager Leonie Andereya said the team wants the hotel to feel as relevant to a Capetonian as it does to someone visiting for the first time.
Design and Architecture
Neri&Hu designed the building with Cape Town-based architects, drawing on the warehouse structures that once stood on the site. A long, low-slung form and pitched rooflines echo the working harbor. More than six million bricks were laid by hand in shifting patterns on the façade.
At the center is The Drum, a cylindrical space open to the sky, with a spiral staircase up to an outdoor viewing platform. The release calls it part arrival experience and part public lookout, open to guests, visitors and locals alike.
Rooms and Suites
The hotel's 142 guestrooms and suites have a residential feel, with bespoke furniture, natural finishes and joinery inspired by 19th-century travel trunks. Large windows frame views, and custom rugs were woven by Shuttleworth Weaving in KwaZulu-Natal. A 240-square-meter Penthouse and a 112-square-meter suite sit at the top of the hotel.
Art runs through the building. Design Network Africa sourced pieces from makers across the continent, and Cape Town's Southern Guild curated a collection of African artists. It includes Zanele Muholi's black-and-white portraits in the Punch Room and Chuma Maweni's smoke-fired ceramics in the lobby and dining spaces.
Restaurants and Bars
Executive Chef Phil Carmichael and beverage partner George Hunter lead the food and drink program. Shale, the signature restaurant, runs a seasonal menu with in-house dry-aged meat and a predominantly South African wine list. On the rooftop, EAVE sits beside the heated pool and moves from afternoons to sundowners, dinner and music after dark.
The Pool Terrace follows the sun from breakfast to light dinners. The Lobby Bar has a pool table and shifts from morning coffee to evening drinks. The Punch Room serves punches in bowls for sharing, including the Brandewijn, made with brandy, Pinotage, rooibos, pineapple, lemon and winter spice.
Spa, Gym and Event Spaces
The spa sits below sea level. It has five treatment rooms and a couples' suite, plus a sauna and steam room, and the treatment menu uses Omorovicza formulations. The hotel also has a 24-hour gym and a daily schedule of yoga, breathwork, sound baths and movement sessions beside the rooftop pool.
For events, the ballroom holds up to 200 people. There's also a boardroom, two meeting studios, a private event terrace and Vantage, a rooftop event space.

What to Do Next
If Cape Town is on your list, use the reservation form on EDITION's Cape Town page to price your dates. If you're building a South Africa trip around this hotel, check the rate and the cancellation terms for those dates before you lock in flights. Then compare the price against the other places you're considering in Cape Town and book the one that fits your budget. If you plan to eat at Shale or drink at EAVE, ask when you reserve whether those venues need their own booking for your dates.
