Key Points

  • Effective January 1, 2027, Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings need a minimum two-night stay to earn the $600 Lodging Credit on the Platinum and Business Platinum cards.
  • Prepaid Airbnb Luxe bookings now count toward the credit, with a two-night minimum, and The Hotel Collection keeps its two-night minimum.
  • The credit pays up to $300 each half-year, and bookings processed before December 31 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time count toward the July to December period.

Starting January 1, 2027, the Amex Platinum lodging credit will require a two-night stay at Fine Hotels + Resorts. Amex's page says it directly: "Effective January 1, 2027, Fine Hotels + Resorts® bookings will require a minimum two-night stay to be eligible for the $600 Lodging Credit." The change covers both the Platinum Card and the Business Platinum Card.

Two other pieces of the credit are already in place. The Hotel Collection requires two nights, and prepaid Airbnb Luxe bookings now count toward the credit with the same two-night minimum. If you have part of the 2026 credit left, the calendar matters.

What the Credit Covers

Amex describes it as "up to $300 in statement credits semi-annually for up to a total of $600 in statement credit per calendar year." Eligible spending is prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection properties booked with your eligible Platinum Card through American Express Travel, plus prepaid Airbnb Luxe bookings made through AmexTravel.com or the Amex Travel App. Fine Hotels + Resorts and Hotel Collection bookings can also be made by calling the number on the back of your card.

"Prepaid" means "Pay Now" on Amex Travel, paid in full when you book. Every Fine Hotels + Resorts, Hotel Collection and Airbnb Luxe booking has to be prepaid in full to qualify, and the hotel has to belong to one of those two programs.

What Changes and When

  • Now: Airbnb Luxe is part of the credit, with a two-night minimum.
  • Now: The Hotel Collection keeps its two-night minimum.
  • January 1, 2027: Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings need a minimum two-night stay to earn the credit.

How the Two Credit Periods Work

The credit resets each calendar year. The January to June period needs eligible bookings processed before June 30 at 11:59 p.m. Central. The July to December period needs them processed before December 31 at 11:59 p.m. Central. You don't have to finish the trip by those dates. Amex says to allow up to 90 days after an eligible charge for the statement credit to post.

Additional Platinum Cards and Employee Business Platinum Cards on the account can book Fine Hotels + Resorts, The Hotel Collection and Airbnb Luxe. Companion Platinum Cards and Employee Business Expense Cards can book only The Hotel Collection and Airbnb Luxe. The total is capped at $300 in statement credits across all cards on the account each half.

What to Do Before January 1

If you're the Basic Card Member, check the Benefits tab of your online account to see how much of the 2026 credit you've used. If the July to December $300 is still open and you were planning a one-night Fine Hotels + Resorts stay this year, book it prepaid before the December 31 deadline. Amex dates a purchase by when the merchant processes it, so don't leave it to the last day.

For 2027 and later, plan two nights wherever you use the credit. Our guides to the Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts program and its complete benefits cover what the stays include, and the Hotel Collection guide covers the mid-tier option. Our Amex Platinum review and Amex Business Platinum review cover the rest of each card's credits.

Amex could adjust these terms again, so read the lodging credit page before you book.
