American Airlines is adding nonstop flights between New York's JFK and Seattle-Tacoma (SEA), starting in April 2027. The route runs twice daily on the Airbus A321neo.
American last flew JFK to Seattle in 2019. Seattle is the main hub of Alaska Airlines, American's oneworld partner, which matters if you collect Atmos Rewards points as well as AAdvantage miles.
Schedules can change before launch, so confirm your date on aa.com before you plan around it.
Why This Matters
The route lands in Alaska's home airport at a time when the two airlines are moving closer. In September, they announced plans for Alaska to join American's Atlantic and Pacific joint businesses, which we covered in Alaska's plan to join American's joint businesses.
For Atmos Rewards members, American flights already earn points. Alaska's airline partners page says that from January 1, 2027, the way you've chosen to earn Atmos points (distance traveled, price paid or segments flown) applies to all American Airlines flights, wherever you booked. If you've chosen price paid, Alaska says eligible flights booked directly with American using your Atmos Rewards number earn 5 points per $1. Our guide to choosing how you earn Atmos points explains the three options.
Alaska also says a flight earns in one program only. You pick AAdvantage or Atmos Rewards when you book, not both.
What You Should Do
- Search aa.com for dates from April 2027. If the nonstop doesn't show for your date yet, check back.
- Pick your program before you book. Decide whether the trip credits to AAdvantage or Atmos Rewards, and add that number to the reservation.
- Compare cash and miles. Price the fare in cash and in AAdvantage miles for your dates before you decide which to use.
The Bottom Line
If you fly between New York and Seattle from spring 2027, American adds a twice-daily JFK nonstop in April. Search aa.com for your dates, and if you're an Atmos member, set how the trip should credit before you book.
