What is the Delta SkyClub?

The Delta SkyClub is a network of airport lounges operated by Delta Air Lines, offering a serene and comfortable environment for travelers to rest and recharge. Delta SkyClub locations provide premium amenities, including comfortable seating, complimentary refreshments, high-speed Wi-Fi, and sometimes shower facilities and Sky Deck terraces at select locations. They are located worldwide, primarily in Delta's major hubs and select partner airports.

Key Perks of Delta SkyClub Membership:

  1. Comfortable Lounges: Escape the noise of busy airports in spacious lounges with cozy seating.
  2. Complimentary Food & Drinks: Enjoy free snacks, non-alcoholic beverages, and select alcoholic drinks.
  3. High-Speed Wi-Fi: Stay connected with fast internet for work or entertainment.
  4. Full-Service Bars: Many locations offer premium spirits, cocktails, and wines for purchase.
  5. Business Services: Use computers, printers, and workspaces to stay productive on the go.
  6. Showers (Select Locations): Freshen up with available shower facilities at certain lounges.
  7. Partner Lounge Access: Delta SkyClub members can access certain partner airline lounges when flying eligible partner flights, like KLM or Air France.
  8. Sky Deck Terraces: A select few lounges offer outdoor spaces for fresh air and runway views.
  9. Guest Policy: Members can bring guests (up to two) for an additional fee, depending on their membership tier.

Delta SkyMiles Program & Lounge Access Changes

Delta Air Lines is introducing significant changes to its SkyMiles program, which will affect lounge access and elite status qualifications:

  • Elite Status Based on Spending (MQDs): Starting in 2024, Delta will shift to a system where Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) are the sole factor for earning elite status. Miles flown (MQMs) and flight segments (MQSs) will no longer count toward elite status. Instead, status tiers—Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond—are achieved through spending alone. MQDs can be earned by spending on Delta flights and co-branded Delta American Express cards.
  • Tighter Lounge Access Policies: To combat overcrowding, Delta will restrict SkyClub lounge access. Only Medallion members flying on the same day or Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express cardholders will have access. Even then, access may be limited to members with higher MQD spending levels.

How to Become a Delta SkyClub Member

There are several ways to gain access to Delta SkyClub lounges:

  1. Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Card: The easiest way to gain access is by holding the Delta SkyMiles Reserve or Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business card from American Express. Cardholders receive complimentary access when flying on Delta flights. However, starting in 2024, access for non-Medallion members might be restricted.
  2. Membership Options: Delta offers individual and executive memberships. Individual memberships allow access for one person, while executive memberships permit guests (with applicable fees).
  3. Elite Status: Achieving Platinum or Diamond Medallion status in the SkyMiles program through MQDs grants access to SkyClub lounges. Lower tiers may require a fee for access.
  4. Single Visit Passes: If you're not a frequent traveler, you can still purchase single-visit passes for access, but this option will be phased out in 2024 due to new restrictions.

Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card Perks:

  • Complimentary Lounge Access: The Delta SkyMiles Reserve card grants cardholders access to Delta SkyClubs when flying Delta. Guests can accompany the cardholder for an additional fee of $50 per person.
  • Priority Boarding & Sky Priority: Cardholders enjoy priority boarding and faster check-in/security.
  • Companion Certificate: Annually, cardholders receive a domestic flight companion certificate for a reduced fee.

Where Are Delta SkyClub Lounges Located?

Delta SkyClub lounges are spread across major airports in the U.S. and abroad, including:

  • Atlanta (ATL): Delta's largest hub with multiple lounges.
  • New York (JFK & LGA): Both major New York airports have SkyClub locations.
  • Los Angeles (LAX): A prime location for Delta SkyClub travelers.
  • Detroit (DTW), Minneapolis (MSP), Seattle (SEA): Delta's hubs offer multiple lounge options.
  • International Locations: Amsterdam (AMS) and Paris (CDG) feature partner lounges accessible to SkyClub members.

As Delta SkyMiles undergoes changes in 2024, SkyClub access is evolving as well, particularly for those who achieve elite status through spending (MQDs) or hold specific Delta American Express cards. With fewer single-visit passes and tighter restrictions, frequent travelers will benefit the most from SkyClub membership. These lounges remain a top choice for those looking to relax before a flight, providing a range of premium amenities designed to enhance your travel experience.
