The first week of March brought major changes to the points and miles landscape. Chase launched a surprise transfer bonus, Hyatt shuffled hotel categories, and Delta quietly raised award prices on popular routes. Here's what you need to know.

Key Points:

  • Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders can transfer Ultimate Rewards to British Airways with a 30% bonus through March 31st, creating opportunities for short-haul domestic redemptions.
  • World of Hyatt recategorized 142 hotels effective March 15th, with 68 moving up and 74 moving down, requiring immediate action for existing bookings.
  • Delta SkyMiles increased award pricing on transatlantic business class routes by 15-25%, making partner awards through Air France-KLM more attractive.

Chase Ultimate Rewards Transfer Bonus to British Airways

Chase dropped a surprise 30% transfer bonus to British Airways Avios running March 1-31, 2026. This is the first Chase-to-BA bonus since November 2024, and it's creating some genuinely valuable redemption opportunities.

Here's why this matters: British Airways Avios uses a distance-based award chart, making it incredibly efficient for short-haul flights on American Airlines (their oneworld partner). With the bonus, you're transferring Chase points at a 1:1.3 ratio.

The sweet spots:

  • West Coast to Hawaii: 12,500 Avios normally becomes 9,616 Chase points with the bonus (economy one-way)
  • East Coast to Caribbean: 13,000 Avios becomes 10,000 Chase points
  • Transcontinental flights under 2,000 miles: 12,500-16,250 Avios

The catch? You'll pay British Airways fuel surcharges on BA-operated flights, which can run $400-600 on transatlantic routes. Stick to American Airlines flights booked through BA to avoid these fees entirely.

Action item: If you're planning domestic travel or a Hawaii trip this year and hold the Chase Sapphire Reserve or Ink Business Preferred, this bonus makes those redemptions 30% cheaper. Transfer before March 31st.

If you don't currently have a Chase Sapphire Reserve card, now's a good time to consider applying. The card earns 3x points on dining and travel, and those points just became 30% more valuable for British Airways redemptions. World of Hyatt Category Changes Hit 142 Properties

Hyatt announced category changes affecting 142 hotels worldwide, taking effect March 15, 2026. The changes skew slightly negative, with 68 properties moving up a category and 74 moving down.

Notable increases (bad news):

  • Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort: Category 6 to Category 7 (35,000 to 40,000 points)
  • Park Hyatt New York: Category 7 to Category 8 (40,000 to 50,000 points)
  • Hyatt Regency Kyoto: Category 5 to Category 6 (25,000 to 30,000 points)

Notable decreases (good news):

  • Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach: Category 4 to Category 3 (15,000 to 12,000 points)
  • Thompson Zihuatanejo: Category 5 to Category 4 (25,000 to 15,000 points)
  • Hyatt Centric Chicago Magnificent Mile: Category 5 to Category 4 (25,000 to 15,000 points)

What to do right now: If you have existing bookings at hotels moving up in category, those reservations are grandfathered at the old rate until March 14th. Any new bookings or modifications after March 15th will use the new award chart. If you're planning a stay at a property increasing in category, book before the deadline.

The Andaz Maui increase stings particularly hard since it's already one of the most expensive Hyatt redemptions. At 40,000 points per night, you're looking at 200,000 points for a five-night stay. Cash rates during peak season can hit $800-1,200 per night, so the redemption value is still there, but it's frustrating to see the goalposts move.

If you're new to Hyatt points, check out our complete guide to World of Hyatt. The World of Hyatt Credit Card currently offers 60,000 bonus points after spending $3,000 in the first three months, enough for up to five free nights at lower-category properties.

Delta SkyMiles Raises Transatlantic Business Class Awards

Delta quietly increased award pricing on transatlantic business class routes, with increases ranging from 15-25% depending on the route and date. What was 85,000-95,000 SkyMiles one-way from the East Coast to Europe in business class is now 100,000-120,000 SkyMiles for many dates.

The devaluation hit hardest on popular routes:

  • New York to London: Previously 95,000 SkyMiles, now 115,000-120,000
  • New York to Paris: Previously 90,000 SkyMiles, now 110,000-115,000
  • Atlanta to Amsterdam: Previously 85,000 SkyMiles, now 105,000-110,000

Economy awards on these routes remain relatively stable, with most still pricing at 50,000-65,000 SkyMiles one-way.

The workaround: Air France-KLM Flying Blue remains a better value for transatlantic business class. The same routes typically price at 53,000-63,000 Flying Blue miles one-way, and you can transfer there from Chase, Amex, Citi, Capital One, and Bilt.

Delta SkyMiles also partners with Virgin Atlantic, which offers competitive pricing on transatlantic routes at 50,000 Virgin points one-way in business class during off-peak periods. You can transfer to Virgin Atlantic from Amex, Citi, Capital One, and Bilt.

Bottom line: Unless you're sitting on a pile of Delta SkyMiles with no other options, it's worth checking Flying Blue or Virgin Atlantic availability before booking through Delta. The savings can be 40,000-50,000 miles roundtrip.

IHG Rewards Club Extends 4th Night Free Benefit

IHG One Rewards quietly extended its Points Advance benefit through the end of 2026. This perk lets you book award stays even if you don't have enough points in your account, giving you up to 60 days to earn the missing points.

Additionally, IHG added a new benefit for stays booked with points: automatic 4th night free on four-night redemptions. Previously, this benefit was limited to specific promotions. Now it's permanent.

Example: A four-night stay at a property costing 40,000 points per night would normally cost 160,000 points. With the 4th night free, you'll pay 120,000 points, effectively getting each night for 30,000 points instead of 40,000.

The benefit applies to both standard room awards and PointBreaks properties. It doesn't stack with the 5th night free benefit on five-night stays, but it's still a solid 25% discount on shorter trips.

If you're interested in IHG redemptions, the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card is currently offering 160,000 bonus points after spending $3,000 in the first three months. That's enough for multiple free nights at mid-tier properties. Learn more about how to use IHG points strategically.

Amex Business Platinum Adds Dell Credit

American Express added a new $200 annual Dell Technologies credit to the Business Platinum card, split into $100 credits every six months (January-June and July-December). This brings the card's total annual credits to $1,200:

  • $200 Dell credit (new)
  • $200 airline fee credit
  • $200 hotel credit (via Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection)
  • $400 Dell credit (existing, separate from the new one)
  • $200 in Amex Offers and entertainment credits

The annual fee remains $695, making the math more favorable for small business owners who can use Dell equipment or software.

Strategy: The Dell credit works on almost everything Dell sells, including gift cards. You can buy $100 in Xbox or other gift cards every six months to effectively cash out this credit if you don't need Dell products.

The Business Platinum Card from American Express earns 5x points on flights and prepaid hotels through Amex Travel, plus 1.5x points on purchases of $5,000 or more. If you run a business and travel frequently, this card offers exceptional value beyond the Dell credit.

Southwest Rapid Rewards Adds New International Routes

Southwest announced five new international routes launching summer 2026, all from Houston Hobby:

  • Houston to Belize City
  • Houston to Liberia, Costa Rica (second daily frequency)
  • Houston to San Salvador, El Salvador
  • Houston to Roatan, Honduras
  • Houston to Guatemala City

All routes will operate daily except San Salvador (5x weekly). Southwest Rapid Rewards redemptions on these routes are already bookable, with one-way awards starting at 7,500-12,000 points.

The Houston expansion continues Southwest's Caribbean and Central America strategy. If you hold the Southwest Companion Pass, these new routes become twice as valuable since your companion flies free on award tickets.

Southwest offers three personal credit cards through Chase: the Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus, Premier, and Priority cards. All three earn points toward Companion Pass qualification. The Premier and Priority cards offer the best earning rates at 3x points on Southwest purchases.

Capital One Venture X Adds Priority Pass Restaurant Credit

Capital One quietly added a new benefit to the Venture X card: $100 annual Priority Pass restaurant credit. This credit works at participating Priority Pass Select restaurants in airports, separate from the unlimited lounge access the card already provides.

Currently, about 45 U.S. airports have Priority Pass dining options, including major hubs like LAX, JFK, DFW, and ATL. The $100 credit is per calendar year, not per cardmember year.

How it works: You present your Priority Pass card (digital or physical) at participating restaurants, and the first $100 in purchases each year is automatically credited. Any amount over $100 comes out of pocket.

This is a solid addition for a card with a $395 annual fee that already includes excellent travel perks. Between the 10,000-mile anniversary bonus ($100 value), Capital One lounge access, and now this dining credit, the card is effectively paying for itself before you consider any other benefits.

The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card earns 2x miles on all purchases, 5x miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel, and 10x miles on thousands of hotels through the Capital One Lifestyle Collection. Conclusion

March brought a mix of opportunities and devaluations across the points landscape. The Chase-to-British Airways transfer bonus creates real value for domestic and Hawaii travel, while the Hyatt category changes require immediate action if you have bookings at affected properties. Delta's transatlantic devaluation stings, but Flying Blue and Virgin Atlantic provide better alternatives.

The key is staying informed and acting quickly when limited-time opportunities appear. The Chase transfer bonus ends March 31st, and the Hyatt grandfathering window closes March 14th. Don't wait.
