Introduction
Choice Privileges reward nights start at 6,000 points, and Choice says most start at 8,000 or more. Past that, the price depends on the hotel, the brand and the time of year, so there's no single chart to memorize. What makes the program interesting to anyone outside the road-trip-Comfort-Inn crowd is where those points can go: Cambria, Ascend Collection and the Radisson hotels Choice owns in the Americas.
This guide covers how Choice prices reward nights, what each membership level adds, where the sweet spots are, and how to fund a redemption.
How Choice Prices Reward Nights
Choice's rules say reward nights start at 6,000 points a night, and most start at 8,000 or more. Point levels "typically vary by location, brand, and time of year," and Choice can change them at any time without notice. To see what a hotel costs, check its points price on ChoiceHotels.com.
A few rules shape what you pay:
- RewardSaver. Choice sometimes offers reward nights at a reduced price through RewardSaver, starting at 6,000 points a night.
- Points Plus Cash. If you're short, you can use as few as 6,000 points a night and buy the rest. Choice's program page says U.S. reward nights can start at $17 plus 6,000 points.
- Premium rooms. Some room types, such as premium suites or rooms with multiple bedrooms, may cost more points or not be available as reward nights.
- No blackout dates. Reward nights are available every night of the year, subject to the hotel's available inventory, and you can book up to 50 weeks before the end of your stay.
- Titanium Travel Award. Titanium members get one reward booking a year, up to seven nights at select hotels, for half the usual points.
Because prices move by date, compare the points price with the cash rate for your exact nights, and book when the ratio looks good.
Choice Privileges Membership Levels
Choice has four elite levels above basic membership. You qualify in a calendar year on Elite Qualifying Nights or on Elite Qualifying Credits (base points from paid stays, plus points earned on a Choice Privileges Mastercard):
- Gold: 5 nights or 10,000 credits. 10% bonus points on stays.
- Platinum: 15 nights or 30,000 credits. 25% bonus points.
- Diamond: 35 nights or 70,000 credits. 50% bonus points, guaranteed room availability at Cambria, Ascend Collection and Americas Radisson hotels when you book at least 48 hours out, and free breakfast for you and a guest at Radisson upscale brands in the Americas.
- Titanium: 55 nights or 110,000 credits. 50% bonus points, Diamond's benefits and the yearly Titanium Travel Award.
Every elite level can request check-in up to two hours early and checkout until 2 p.m. at U.S. hotels (subject to availability), and your points don't expire while you hold status. If you don't requalify, Choice drops you one level a year rather than all the way down.
Sweet-Spot Calls for 2026
If I'm holding a 60,000-point balance (the size of both Wells Fargo Choice cards' current welcome offers), here's where I'd look.
Cambria and Americas Radisson hotels. Cambria, Radisson Blu and Radisson Collection hotels in the U.S., Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean are the upscale end of what Choice points book. Radisson hotels in Europe and elsewhere belong to Radisson Hotel Group, an unaffiliated company, and aren't part of Choice Privileges, so don't plan a Berlin or London stay around Choice points.
Ascend Collection. Prices vary by date at these hotels too, so compare off-peak and peak nights before you book. Elite members can get room upgrades at Ascend and Cambria hotels, subject to availability.
Preferred Hotels & Resorts. Choice points also book reward nights at over 300 Preferred Hotels & Resorts properties, at set point rates, through a booking link on ChoiceHotels.com.
RewardSaver nights. When a hotel offers RewardSaver pricing, nights start at 6,000 points. Worth a search every time.
What I'd avoid: burning points on a night when the cash rate is low. If a room is $80 or 10,000 points, pay cash and save the points.
Earning Paths in 2026: How to Fund a Redemption
Three legitimate routes to a Choice Privileges balance.
Paid stays. Members earn 10 points per dollar at most brands, with elite bonuses on top (10% Gold, 25% Platinum, 50% Diamond and Titanium). Say you spend $200 on a stay: that's 2,000 base points, plus 500 more as a Platinum. Choice also adds 1,000 bonus points after your second and third qualifying stays each calendar year. That math only works if you're staying at Choice properties anyway.
Cobranded credit cards. Wells Fargo issues two Choice cards: the no-annual-fee Choice Privileges Mastercard (automatic Gold status) and the Choice Privileges Select Mastercard ($95 annual fee, automatic Platinum status and 30,000 bonus points every account anniversary). Both currently offer 60,000 bonus points: after $1,000 in purchases in the first 3 months on the $0 card, and after $3,000 on the Select. Transfers from card programs. Choice's partner page lists Wells Fargo Rewards at 1:2, Citi ThankYou at up to 1,500 Choice points per 1,000 (from the Strata Premier, Strata Elite and Prestige), and American Express Membership Rewards and Capital One at 1:1. Wells Fargo and the top Citi cards stretch furthest, so they're the path I'd push someone toward who doesn't want to open a Choice card but wants a Cambria redemption later in the year.
How Choice Compares to Wyndham, IHG, and Hyatt for Budget Redemptions
Wyndham Rewards. Wyndham prices reward nights in four tiers, at 5,000, 15,000, 30,000 and 45,000 points per night, and the property network overlaps Choice's heavily in the budget segment (Days Inn, Super 8, La Quinta on the Wyndham side; Comfort Inn, Quality Inn, Sleep Inn on Choice's). At the bottom, Wyndham's 5,000-point level is below Choice's 6,000-point starting price. Where Choice pulls ahead is the upper end. Cambria and Radisson Blu inventory has no real Wyndham equivalent for travelers who want a step up from a roadside hotel without paying Hilton or Hyatt prices. Wyndham's also added a Bilt 1:1 transfer in April 2026, making Wyndham more accessible for renters.
IHG One Rewards. IHG moved fully to dynamic pricing years ago, which means its lower-end redemptions at Holiday Inn Express properties can be cheaper than Choice's prices in low-demand windows. The ceiling, though, is much higher. A weekend at an IHG property in a major city can run 50,000 to 70,000 points easily. World of Hyatt. Different program, different audience. Hyatt's award chart is the gold standard in hotel points (Category 1 starts at 3,500 a night, Category 8 caps at 45,000), but Hyatt's footprint is concentrated in major cities and resort destinations. Choice and Hyatt barely overlap geographically. The two are complements, not competitors.
The takeaway: for budget redemptions on the road, Choice holds up well, particularly with the Cambria and Americas Radisson inventory layered on. Reward nights from 6,000 points and the Wells Fargo and Citi transfer rates make Choice points useful for travelers who check prices before they book.
Where I'd Actually Start
If you've never used Choice points before and you're sitting on a Wells Fargo Rewards or top-tier Citi balance, here's the play: find a Cambria or Americas Radisson night where the points price looks good against the cash rate, transfer just enough to cover it, and book it for a shoulder-season weekend.
