Introduction
The pitch on the Bilt Blue Card is simple. You pay rent or a mortgage every month. Pay it through Bilt with the card and you earn points with no transaction fee. The annual fee is $0. Bilt says there's no annual cap on housing payment amounts. And the points transfer 1:1 to programs you actually want, including World of Hyatt, United MileagePlus, and Air Canada Aeroplan.
That's the headline. The detail everyone misses is that the card is doing four jobs at once, and only two of them are genuinely strong. As of October 2026, here's the honest read on whether the Blue belongs in your wallet.
Quick Summary
Best For: Renters and homeowners who want transferable points and can put everyday spending close to their housing payment on this card rather than another one.
Standout Benefit: Up to 1.25x on rent and mortgage payments made through Bilt, with no transaction fee.
Biggest Drawback: Housing points depend on your everyday spending. On the Housing-only option, 1x takes card spending of at least 75% of the payment, and below 25% you get 250 points.
Current Offer: $100 of Bilt Cash when you're approved, and a $0 annual fee. The Blue is one of three Bilt cards (no-fee, $95 and $495) that launched in February 2026, issued by Column N.A. and serviced by Cardless, replacing the Wells Fargo card.
Bilt Blue Card Overview
Bilt Rewards started as a loyalty program built around rent. The original Bilt Mastercard was issued by Wells Fargo and was retired after February 6, 2026; the next day, three new Bilt cards went live, issued by Column N.A. and serviced by Cardless. Wells Fargo cardholders who chose a new card by February 1 kept their card number with no hard credit inquiry, and choosing later meant a standard application. A Wells Fargo account that wasn't closed became a Wells Fargo Autograph card.
The card sits in an unusual category. It's a no-annual-fee Mastercard with no foreign transaction fees, cell phone protection, purchase assurance and MasterRental rental car coverage, but it is not a flat-rate cash-back card and it is not a category-specific dining or travel card. It is a housing-rewards card with restaurant, Lyft and travel bonuses bolted on the side. That framing matters when you compare it to the Wells Fargo Active Cash or the Citi Double Cash.
Earning Structure
The Blue's earning rates are straightforward, with one important catch on housing and one promotion, Rent Day, that adds a monthly boost.
Rent and Mortgage: Up to 1.25x, No Transaction Fee
What you earn on rent or a mortgage depends on one of two rewards options you pick. On Housing-only, points post automatically after your statement closes, and your multiplier is set each billing cycle by your everyday card spending as a share of the payment: 0.5x at 25%, 0.75x at 50%, 1x at 75% and 1.25x at 100% or more, with 250 points below 25%. On Flexible Bilt Cash, you earn 4% back in Bilt Cash on everyday purchases, and every $3 of Bilt Cash you redeem on a housing payment unlocks 100 points, up to 1 point per dollar of the payment.
Bilt's own example uses $2,000 rent: $1,500 of everyday spending in the billing cycle earns 1x on Housing-only, or 2,000 points, and on Flexible, redeeming $60 of Bilt Cash unlocks the same 2,000 points. Our Bilt Cash guide walks through which option fits.
The "no transaction fee" piece is the core of the card. Pay through Bilt and there's no transaction fee and no payment portal convenience fee. If your landlord doesn't take cards, Bilt can pay by ACH, Venmo or check for you. Either way, the money comes out of your linked bank account within 24 hours, so housing payments don't use your credit line.
There's no longer a 5-transaction requirement. Bilt's card page says that minimum "was a requirement of the original Bilt Card and does not apply to any Bilt Card 2.0 product."
Dining: Up to 4x at Bilt Partner Restaurants
The Blue earns up to 4x at Bilt partner restaurants, more than 20,000 of them in the U.S., when you pay with the card. The bonus varies by restaurant and shows in the Bilt app. Dining elsewhere earns the base 1x. For a higher rate on dining everywhere, look at the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Bilt's own $95 Obsidian, which earns 3x on your choice of dining or grocery and up to 6x at partner restaurants.
Travel: 3x on Hotels and 2x on Flights Through Bilt Travel
The Blue earns 3x on hotels and 2x on flights booked through the Bilt Travel portal. You can also pay with points for all or part of a portal booking. Bilt doesn't publish a single value for a point, so compare the portal price with a transfer before you book.
Everything Else: 1x
All other purchases earn 1x, except Lyft, which earns 3x once you link your Bilt and Lyft accounts. This is where the Blue falls behind a flat-rate card like the Wells Fargo Active Cash. On Housing-only, though, spending on another card doesn't count toward your housing multiplier, so weigh that before you split your spending.
The Welcome Offer
The Blue's welcome offer is $100 of Bilt Cash when you apply and get approved. Bilt Cash works at Bilt partners such as Lyft, Bilt Travel hotel bookings and Walgreens, and any balance above $100 expires at the end of each year. The $495 Palladium is the card with a points offer: 50,000 points and Gold status after $4,000 in purchases (excluding rent or mortgage) in the first 90 days, plus $300 of Bilt Cash.
Transfer Partners (the Real Reason to Care)
Bilt points transfer to airline, hotel and rail partners, most at 1:1. As of October 2026, Bilt's list includes:
Airlines (1:1): Aer Lingus AerClub, Air Canada Aeroplan, Air France-KLM Flying Blue, Atmos Rewards (Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines), Avianca LifeMiles, British Airways Executive Club, Cathay Pacific, Emirates Skywards, Etihad Airways, Iberia Plus, Japan Airlines, Qatar Airways Privilege Club, Southwest Airlines, TAP Miles&Go, Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles, United MileagePlus, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and Virgin Red.
Hotels: Hilton Honors, IHG One Rewards, Marriott Bonvoy, World of Hyatt and Wyndham Rewards at 1:1; Accor Live Limitless at 3:2; I Prefer Hotel Rewards at 1:2.
Rail: Amtrak Guest Rewards at 2:1.
The Hyatt partnership is the standout. See our breakdown of award chart changes for the May 2026 update. United and Aeroplan open up Star Alliance availability for premium cabin redemptions. Virgin Atlantic gets you to ANA business class to Tokyo, a redemption we've covered in depth.

Rent Day: The Promotion That Carries the Card
Rent Day runs on the first of each month, from 12:00 AM Eastern through 11:59 PM Pacific. Two things happen:
- Everyday purchases on the Blue earn 2x instead of 1x, up to 1,000 bonus points a month. Rent and mortgage payments don't count. Bilt's terms say this offer runs from March 1, 2026 through January 1, 2027.
- Bilt drops limited-time benefits, such as transfer bonuses, neighborhood dining experiences and a chance to win free rent. Check the Bilt app for what's live that month.
Rent Day is where engaged cardholders extract extra value. Put flexible purchases on the 1st, and if a transfer bonus lands on a partner you're already planning to use, your points go further. Set a calendar reminder.
How the Bilt Blue Card Compares
Bilt vs. Wells Fargo Active Cash if you won't pay housing through Bilt. If you don't pay rent or a mortgage through Bilt, the math falls apart. The Wells Fargo Active Cash is a flat-rate cash-back card with no transfer-partner complexity. For someone who won't use Bilt's housing earning, Active Cash is the cleaner pick.
Bilt vs. Citi Double Cash for simple cash-back users. The Citi Double Cash is another flat-rate cash-back card. Same logic as Active Cash: if housing is not part of the equation, Citi Double Cash is the more flexible card.
Bilt vs. Chase Sapphire Preferred for travelers. The Sapphire Preferred earns 5x on Chase Travel and 3x on dining, among other categories, comes with a 75,000-point welcome bonus after $5,000 in purchases in the first 3 months, and accesses 14 transfer partners including Hyatt and United. Trade-off: an annual fee, and no Bilt housing rewards. The two can work together: the Sapphire Preferred carries dining and travel, Bilt carries rent, though on Housing-only it's your Bilt card spending that sets the housing multiplier.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Up to 1.25x on rent and mortgage with no transaction fee, and no annual cap on housing payment amounts.
- Transfers to airline, hotel and rail partners, most at 1:1, with World of Hyatt and United as the real value drivers.
- Rent Day doubles everyday earning on the 1st, up to 1,000 bonus points a month, and brings limited-time perks such as transfer bonuses.
- $0 annual fee, so no break-even math required.
- Free reporting of on-time rent payments to Experian, Equifax and TransUnion, useful for thin-file renters building credit history.
Cons:
- No points welcome bonus; the offer is $100 of Bilt Cash.
- Housing points depend on everyday spending. Light spenders earn partial points, and below 25% of the payment on Housing-only you get 250 points.
- 1x on non-bonus spending is below what flat-rate cards like Active Cash and Double Cash pay.
- Transfers aren't always instant: Bilt says to allow up to 48 hours (72 for Southwest), and a transfer can't be reversed.
Who Should Get the Bilt Blue Card
Great fit for:
- Renters and homeowners who currently earn nothing on their housing payment and can put everyday spending close to it on the card.
- Points users who want cheap exposure to Hyatt, United, Aeroplan, and Virgin Atlantic without paying annual fees on multiple co-branded cards.
- Credit-builders who want their on-time rent reported to Experian, Equifax and TransUnion at no cost.
Not ideal for:
- People who won't pay rent or a mortgage through Bilt, since housing earning is the main event.
- Cash-back simplicity preferrers who want a flat rate on everything with zero category tracking. Wells Fargo Active Cash or Citi Double Cash are the cleaner picks for that user.
- Anyone whose card spending is far below their housing payment.
Final Verdict
The Bilt Blue Card is a single-purpose card pretending to be a multi-category card, and that's fine because the single purpose, housing rewards with no transaction fee, is a strong one. If you pay rent or a mortgage, this card belongs in your wallet, as long as you put enough everyday spending on it to lift your housing multiplier. There's no annual cap on housing payment amounts to worry about.
If you won't pay housing through Bilt, skip it. The everyday rates aren't strong enough to justify the card without housing earning, and Active Cash or Double Cash will cover your non-bonus spend more simply. Homeowners are a different story now: mortgage payments through Bilt earn the same way rent does, and Bilt says almost all personal mortgage servicers are supported.
For everyone else paying rent, the math is clear. Say your rent is $2,000 and you put $1,500 of everyday spending on the card each billing cycle: on Housing-only, the rent earns 2,000 points a month, on top of what the spending itself earns. At a $0 annual fee, that's an easy yes in the no-fee category.
Updated October 1, 2026: Rewritten for Bilt Card 2.0. The Wells Fargo Bilt Mastercard was retired in February 2026, so this review now covers its no-fee successor, the Bilt Blue Card. The 5-transaction rule and the 100,000-point rent cap no longer apply, housing earns up to 1.25x based on everyday spending, the welcome offer is $100 of Bilt Cash, mortgage payments now earn, and the earning rates, Rent Day and transfer partners follow Bilt's own pages. We also removed point values and award prices we couldn't confirm.
