Rakuten just bumped its StubHub cash-back rate to 12 percent for one day only, and if you pair it with a couple of Chase perks, you can turn a routine ticket purchase into a serious rewards haul.
Here's the play. Rakuten's standard StubHub rate is normally 2 percent, so today's 12 percent jump is worth chasing if you've got tickets on your radar. Just click through Rakuten before you shop, since cash back only tracks if you start there.
If you're carrying the Chase Sapphire Reserve, layer on two more perks. The card carries an annual StubHub credit worth up to $300, split into two $150 halves for the first and second parts of the year. If you haven't used your second-half credit yet, paying with the Sapphire Reserve at checkout triggers that statement credit automatically.
Then pay with Paze instead of just tapping in your card number. Several Chase cards, including the Sapphire Reserve, Chase Freedom Flex, and Chase Freedom Unlimited, are currently offering 10 bonus points per dollar on Paze purchases (up to $1,500 monthly), plus a $10 statement credit on qualifying transactions of $10 or more. That's on top of whatever your card earns normally, and on top of your Rakuten cash back.
Run the math on a $300 ticket purchase: 12 percent through Rakuten gets you $36 back, Paze adds 3,000 bonus points, your card's base spend earns another 300 points, and you'd pick up the $150 StubHub credit plus the $10 Paze credit. That's $196 in credits and cash back plus 3,300 points on a $300 purchase, before you even count the tickets themselves.
Don't have the Sapphire Reserve? You still get the Paze bonus points and $10 credit on the Freedom Flex or Freedom Unlimited, and live entertainment purchases are a current quarterly 5 percent category on the Freedom Flex, so your base earning rate jumps too.
One catch: Rakuten's cash back on this deal doesn't post instantly. Expect it to take about a week, sometimes longer.
The elevated 12 percent Rakuten rate is only live through the end of today, so if you've got an event on your list, this is the day to book it. Check current Chase Sapphire Reserve offers before you buy to make sure your card is set up to catch every layer of this stack. This article contains affiliate links.
