That's the short version. The longer one matters because the price of a reward seat depends on the airline, the route and the date, and the old rules of thumb about the program no longer hold. Virgin Points at a Glance
Flying Club miles were renamed Virgin Points in 2020, and Virgin's pages say Virgin Points never expire. You spend them on Virgin Atlantic flights and on partner airlines. Virgin lists 25 airline partners, including SkyTeam members such as Delta Air Lines, Air France, KLM and Korean Air, and others such as All Nippon Airways, Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia. Virgin's partner page says many partners can be booked online while others need to be booked through its Customer Centre, so check each partner's page.
One rule applies almost everywhere: you can only redeem on flights the partner operates itself. A Delta-marketed flight operated by another carrier doesn't count, and reward flights on partners don't earn points.
How to Earn Virgin Points
You can earn points by flying, but most readers will transfer from a flexible currency. These are the paths I could confirm:
- Chase Ultimate Rewards: Virgin's page says Chase points transfer at 1:1, in increments of 1,000 with a 1,000-point minimum.
- American Express Membership Rewards: Virgin Atlantic Flying Club is listed as a Membership Rewards transfer partner. Confirm the ratio in your account, because it varies by market.
- Bilt Rewards: Bilt's support page lists Virgin Atlantic Flying Club at 1:1.
- Capital One: Capital One's partner list shows Virgin Red at 1:1, not Virgin Atlantic by name, so check the transfer screen before you move miles.
- Citi ThankYou: Citi has listed Virgin Atlantic as a partner. Confirm it on your ThankYou account, since the ratio can depend on the card.
Transfers are one-way. Check award space before you move points, and send only what you need. If you want to move points between Flying Club members, there's a flat fee of $15 and a 1,000-point minimum.
Booking Virgin Atlantic Flights With Points
Virgin's reward flights page says the points price "varies based on demand, just like money," and also varies by route, cabin and date. There's no single chart to memorize for Virgin's own flights. The lowest prices, which Virgin labels Saver, start from 6,000 points one way, subject to availability, and its Reward Seat Checker shows prices by month.
You pay points plus taxes, fees and carrier charges, and Virgin shows the total before you book. Flights leaving the UK carry UK Air Passenger Duty, so compare the cash you'll pay on an outbound from London with the same trip starting in the U.S.
You can also use points to upgrade to Premium or Upper Class, subject to availability. If you booked and paid fully with points, you can call to change the booking. Virgin charges £70 per person for flights starting in the UK and $100 per person for flights from elsewhere, and some changes cost extra points or cash.
Booking Delta With Virgin Points
Virgin's Delta page says to book direct with Virgin Atlantic and select "Search for Reward Flights." Redemptions are valid on Delta-operated flights, including Delta Connection, and blackout dates may apply. Delta awards have peak and off-peak prices that vary by route, and Virgin publishes the tables on the Delta partner page. Read the table for your route there rather than relying on a number from memory.
Delta's own SkyMiles pricing is a different system, so it's worth pricing the same flight in both before you transfer. Searching Delta's site first can help you spot which flights have award space.
Booking Air France and KLM With Virgin Points
Air France and KLM also book online through Virgin. Select "Search for Reward Flights," and log in to see prices. Reward flights on both can be booked up to 300 days before departure. Virgin's Air France page prices Economy, Premium and Business, with separate standard and peak dates, and the prices are for a one-way ticket before taxes and fees.
Booking ANA With Virgin Points
ANA is the redemption most readers come for. Virgin's ANA page says to get in touch with its Flying Club team to book, so there's no online checkout. Rewards are valid only on ANA-operated flights and subject to availability. The prices on Virgin's U.S. page are one way, before taxes and fees:
- Business, Japan and Western USA, Canada or Australia: 52,500 points.
- Business, Japan and Central or Eastern USA, Mexico or Europe: 60,000 points.
- First, Japan and Western USA, Canada or Australia: 72,500 points.
- First, Japan and Central or Eastern USA, Mexico or Europe: 85,000 points.
Virgin's regional pages have shown different tables for ANA, so confirm the figure on the page for your country, or with the Flying Club team, before you transfer. Search ANA availability first on a Star Alliance partner's site, note the flight numbers and dates, then call.
Common Mistakes
Transferring points before confirming the award. Transfers can't be reversed, so confirm the seat and the price first. For ANA, that means talking to the Flying Club team before you move points.
Assuming an old chart still applies. Virgin's own flights are priced by demand, and partner tables change. Read the current page for the airline you want.
Booking a partner flight that someone else operates. Delta, Air France and ANA awards work only on flights those airlines operate themselves.
Overlooking taxes on UK departures. Check the total cash on the booking page before you confirm, and compare it against starting your trip elsewhere.
Worrying about expiry. Virgin Points don't expire, so there's no need to make a token transfer to keep a balance alive.

- Transfer the exact number of points you need. The transfer is one-way.
- Book the award and check the cash total before you confirm.
