Citi's current offer, per its Strata Premier page, is 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 in the first 3 months, and Citi says the bonus is not available if you currently have or previously had a Citi Strata Premier or a Citi Premier account. The 80,000 points were worth roughly $800 redeemed at a flat penny per point through the ThankYou portal. Transferred to a partner like Virgin Atlantic Flying Club or Air France/KLM Flying Blue at 1:1, a 25,000-point one-way to Europe in economy was on the table from the bonus alone.
Who Couldn't Get the Bonus
When the 80,000-point offer ran, Citi applied a 48-month rule to this card family: you weren't eligible if you'd earned a welcome bonus on, or closed, a Citi Strata Premier, Citi Premier, Citi Prestige, Citi Rewards+, or Citi ThankYou Preferred card in the past 48 months. That was stricter than Chase's 5/24. Citi's current terms are the ones in the first paragraph: no bonus if you currently have or previously had a Citi Strata Premier or Citi Premier account.
How to Earn It
- Apply via the Citi Strata Premier page and read the offer terms; the bonus there now is the current 60,000-point offer, not the 80,000.
- Run your largest recurring spend (groceries, gas, dining) through the card to clear $4,000 in 90 days.
- Track in the Citi app. Bonus points typically post 8 to 10 weeks after you hit the threshold.
What the Card Earns After the Bonus
The Strata Premier earns 10x on hotels, car rentals, and attractions booked through Citi Travel; 3x on restaurants, supermarkets, gas and EV charging, air travel, and other hotels; and 1x on everything else. The 3x supermarket category covers most U.S. grocery chains but not Walmart or Target. No foreign transaction fee.
It also includes a $100 annual hotel credit on a single hotel stay of $500 or more (excluding taxes and fees) booked through Citi Travel. That benefit alone covers the annual fee in any year you book a qualifying hotel through the portal.
Why It Was Worth a Look
With the 80,000-point bonus, a $100 hotel credit, no foreign transaction fees, and 16+ transfer partners (Virgin Atlantic, Singapore KrisFlyer, Qantas, JetBlue, Choice Privileges, Wyndham) at $95, this was a solid deal. It worked best for someone who wasn't blocked by the 48-month rule and had the spend to clear the bonus comfortably.
