Lyft pays 6% back in Lyft Cash on Standard, Priority Pickup and XL rides to employees on an active Lyft Business account, and 8% on premium, airport and scheduled rides. Personal riders who link a partner program earn that program's rate instead, such as 2 points per dollar on Standard, Priority Pickup and XL rides and 3 on airport and premium rides with Atmos Rewards.
Below is what each option pays, how Lyft compares with Uber One, and which setup fits which rider. Rates change, so confirm them on Lyft's pages before you rely on one.
What Lyft Pays
Lyft Business riders (employees whose employer has an active Lyft Business account) earn Lyft Cash:
- 6% back on Standard, Priority Pickup and XL rides
- 8% back on premium, airport and scheduled rides
Lyft says there's no subscription or minimum spend. You activate your business profile through a link Lyft texts to your phone, and terms apply.
Personal riders who link a partner program earn at that partner's rate, per Lyft's rider rewards page:
- Atmos Rewards (Alaska and Hawaiian): 2 points per dollar on Standard, Priority Pickup and XL rides, and 3 points per dollar on airport rides and Extra Comfort, Black and Black SUV rides. Taxes, fees, tolls and tips are excluded.
- United MileagePlus: 4 miles per dollar on scheduled airport rides, 3 on Extra Comfort, Lyft Black, Black SUV and on-demand airport rides, and 1 on Standard, Priority Pickup and XL rides.
- Hilton Honors: 3 points per dollar on all Lyft rides. Points can be redeemed for Lyft credits.
- Bilt: 2 Bilt Points per dollar on eligible US rides when Bilt is your active loyalty partner.
Link the partner whose points you'd actually use, and check the Rewards tab in the app for how switching partners works.
A Hypothetical Ride
Say you take a $20 Standard ride. A Lyft Business rider earns 6% of that in Lyft Cash. An Atmos-linked personal rider earns 2 points per dollar, and a Hilton-linked rider earns 3. Which of those is worth more depends on what you'd do with the currency, so price the points the way you'd price them for a flight or a stay.
Take a higher-priced airport ride and the Atmos rate rises to 3 points per dollar, and United's scheduled airport rate rises to 4 miles per dollar. If you take airport rides often, that's where the partner choice matters most.
How This Compares to Uber One
Uber One costs $9.99 a month, and Uber's page lists 5% back in Uber One credits on rides, along with 10% on car rentals and hotels. Lyft's business rewards have no subscription fee, and personal riders earn partner points without paying Lyft for a membership.
If your only use for Uber One is rides, compare its 5% credit against the Lyft rate you qualify for. If you also use Uber for other things Uber One covers, the membership may still win for you.
Who Benefits Most
Frequent business riders. If your employer has a Lyft Business account, 6% to 8% back with no subscription is the strongest cash-style rate on this list.
Loyalists of one program. If your points already live in Atmos Rewards, Hilton Honors, United or Bilt, linking that partner turns rides you'd take anyway into progress toward a trip or a stay. Our Atmos Rewards guide explains how to use the points you earn.
Occasional riders. If you take a Lyft once a month, the earnings are small whichever partner you link.
Riders who haven't linked a partner. Without a linked partner, you won't earn partner points on personal rides, so open the Rewards tab and link one.
What to Do
If you ride Lyft regularly and haven't linked a partner, link the one you'd use. If your employer offers Lyft Business, check whether your profile is active, since the 6% to 8% rate depends on it.
For card pairing, Lyft's page says Sapphire Reserve cardholders get a $10 monthly ride credit through September 2027, and that some Chase Sapphire and Ink cards earn 5x points on Lyft rides. Check your own card's current Lyft earn rate and credit before you count on either.
