Journey Rewards is a loyalty program for independent hotels and residences, and you earn Journey Points when you book through Journey. Traveler members earn 3 points per eligible dollar at Nominated Properties, paid Legend members earn 5, and Alliance Partner hotels set their own earning.
Here's how earning, status and redemption work, what the paid Legend membership costs, and who the program suits.
What Journey Is
Journey is a platform that puts boutique hotels and residences under one rewards program, so a stay at an independent property can earn points the way a chain stay does. Journey says its network includes more than 2,000 hotels and residences, with examples including Nihi Sumba, Hotel Esencia, Le Sirenuse, The Fifth Avenue Hotel and Upper House Hong Kong.
The network has two parts. Nominated Properties are hotels where you book through Journey and earn Journey Points. Alliance Partners are properties with their own programs, and each one sets its own earning and benefits.
How You Earn Points
At Nominated Properties booked through Journey's website or app, points earn on the accommodation amount Journey collects:
- Traveler: 3 points per eligible US$1.
- Legend: 5 points per eligible US$1.
- Ambassador: the rate in your qualifying offer, or 3 points if the offer doesn't say.
Taxes, resort and government fees, service charges, gratuities and insurance don't earn. Dining, spa and other amounts you pay directly to the property don't earn, and wholesale, group, opaque and third-party agency rates are excluded. Points post after the stay is completed and payment settles, with a standard target of 28 days.
At Alliance Partners there's no network-wide rate. A partner's offer may be points, a fixed award, partner currency or a non-points benefit, and bookings through online travel agencies don't qualify unless the offer says so.
Status Levels
Journey's terms describe three levels: Traveler, Ambassador and Legend. Traveler is the entry level. Status can come from qualifying activity, an invitation, a promotion or a complimentary grant, and the terms say qualification thresholds are stated in the offer or your account. Journey says existing members moved up a level when the program changed, so check your account for your current level.
Paid Legend is a separate annual membership at $195 a year. Journey lists these benefits:
- 10,000 bonus points when you join and again at each paid renewal
- Member-only rates at 2,000+ hotels and residences
- Annual credits for Journey experiences and Blacklane rides
- Waived resort and pet fees at participating properties
- Annual stay awards such as late check-out and room upgrades
- A year of Dorsia membership and a 24/7 concierge by iMessage and WhatsApp
Journey puts the value of the package at more than $800 a year. The benefits are only worth what you'd use, so price the ones you'd actually claim against the $195.
Redeeming and Expiring Points
You can use points for eligible stays, dining, wellness and experiences. Journey says there are no blackout dates, though availability varies by property and redemption type. Check the points price on the booking page for your dates to see what a point is worth on that stay.
Points expire after 24 consecutive months without qualifying earning activity. Logging in, redeeming or receiving a transfer doesn't reset the clock. Transfers, pooling and gifting work only through designated features and their disclosed limits, and points can't be sold.
Who It Suits
