Hilton Honors is the loyalty program of Hilton Hotels, and you earn its points mostly by staying at its hotels. Bonus point offers come and go, and each one has its own terms, so it helps to know how the underlying earning works before you chase one.

How You Earn Points on Stays

Members earn 10 Base Points per $1 spent on an eligible stay. Some brands earn less. Home2 Suites, Homewood Suites, Spark, Tru, Apartment Collection and YOTEL earn 5 points per $1, and LivSmart Studios earns 3, and rates can vary by region. Stays booked through online travel agencies don't earn points.

What Elite Status Adds

Your elite tier adds a bonus on top of the Base Points you earn on every stay:

  • Silver: 20% bonus.
  • Gold: 80% bonus.
  • Diamond: 100% bonus.
  • Diamond Reserve: 120% bonus.

Hilton sets the stays, nights and spend needed for each tier, and the requirements have changed over the years, so check them on Hilton's site before you plan around a tier.

Reading a Bonus Point Offer

A Hilton bonus point offer is tied to a promotion or a Hilton credit card, and the details differ each time: who's eligible, whether you register first, what you have to do and by when. Before you act on one, read the terms on Hilton's site or the card issuer's page, and note the end date.

Using the Points

Points book free nights at Hilton hotels, and the number you need varies by hotel and date. Compare the points price with the cash rate for your dates before you book.
