EVA Air's Infinity MileageLands program is offering up to 30% off purchased miles through June 10, 2026, dropping the cost to 2.8 cents per mile. Before you pull out your credit card, there's a critical restriction you need to know about.

The Deal Details

The discount is tiered based on purchase volume:

  • 41,000+ miles: 30% discount (2.8 cents per mile)
  • 16,000-40,000 miles: 20% discount
  • 3,000-15,000 miles: 10% discount
  • Maximum purchase: 150,000 miles annually

At the top tier, you'll pay $4,200 for 150,000 miles. Miles expire after 36 months and must be bought in 1,000-mile increments.

The 50% Rule Changes Everything

Here's what most coverage misses: You cannot book an award ticket where more than 50% of the miles were purchased. This isn't just fine print—it fundamentally changes who should buy.

If you need 100,000 miles for a redemption, you must already have at least 50,001 miles in your account. You can't start from zero and buy your way to an award ticket.

When This Makes Sense

Top-up scenarios: You're sitting on 60,000 miles and need 25,000 more for business class to Europe (85,000 miles round-trip via Star Alliance partners). Buying 25,000 miles at $700 could be cheaper than paying cash.

Strategic positioning: You have 80,000 miles and want access to EVA's solid redemptions like transcontinental US business class (29,000 miles) or Asia-Pacific routes through Star Alliance.

When to Skip This Sale

Starting from scratch: With the 50% rule, buying miles as your primary strategy doesn't work.

Transfer partners available: If you hold Capital One or Citi cards, transfers are often smarter. Citi transfers 1:1, while Capital One transfers at 4:3 (you'll need 1,334 Capital One miles for every 1,000 EVA miles).

Better redemption options: Shop your intended route across multiple Star Alliance programs. United MileagePlus, Aeroplan, and Avianca LifeMiles often price identical flights differently.

Watch the Fuel Surcharges

EVA adds fuel surcharges to award tickets, which can significantly reduce the value proposition. Always price out the total cost including these fees before committing to a purchase.

Bottom Line

This sale works for topping up existing balances, not building from zero. If you're already invested in EVA's program and close to a redemption, 2.8 cents per mile can save money versus cash fares. Everyone else should look at credit card transfers or alternative Star Alliance programs first.
