Key Points
- Delta's Travel Extras portal currently has three separate promotions running simultaneously: bonus SkyMiles, a miles discount, and MQD earning on hotels and car rentals — each with different deadlines.
- The MQD promotion is the most valuable for status chasers, offering 1 MQD per $1 spent on hotels, vacation rentals, and car rentals for bookings made by July 20, 2026.
- Delta Medallion status requires between 5,000 and 28,000 MQDs annually, so ground-based spending can meaningfully accelerate your progress toward Silver, Gold, Platinum, or Diamond.
Delta is running three simultaneous promotions through its Travel Extras portal right now, and at least one of them is worth your attention if you're chasing Medallion status this year. Here's what's live, what each one actually means, and which offer is worth prioritizing.
The Three Promotions, Broken Down
5x SkyMiles on Hotels and Car Rentals
New-to-portal members earn 5 SkyMiles per $1 spent on reservations booked through August 23, 2026, for travel completed by December 31, 2026. The catch: you must not have booked through the Delta Stays portal in the past 24 months. Vacation packages and Airbnb properties are excluded, and miles don't accrue on taxes, fees, or any miles-covered portion of a booking.
At The Points Party's SkyMiles valuation of roughly 1.2 cents per mile, 5x works out to about 6% back on spending — decent, but not extraordinary for hotel stays where a dedicated hotel rewards card could earn more. If you're new to the portal and have upcoming travel, though, it's free money worth capturing.
15% Discount When Redeeming SkyMiles
Book by June 30, 2026, travel by December 31, 2026, and you'll spend 15% fewer SkyMiles on hotel stays and car rentals through the portal. This stacks with partial miles redemptions, so you can cover just a portion of the booking with miles and still get the discount on that portion.
This is separate from the Delta co-branded card benefit that offers 15% off award flight redemptions. You cannot combine the two offers. If you've been sitting on a SkyMiles balance and have a hotel stay coming up, this is a straightforward way to stretch it further — though as we explain in Why Are Delta SkyMiles So Hard to Use?, SkyMiles typically deliver their best value on Delta flight redemptions rather than hotels.
1 MQD per $1 on Hotels, Vacation Rentals, and Car Rentals
This is the one that actually moves the needle for status chasers. Book by July 20, 2026, complete travel by December 15, 2026, and you'll earn 1 MQD per dollar spent. Delta Vacations bookings are excluded.
Here's why this matters: in 2026, you need 5,000 MQDs for Silver Medallion, 10,000 for Gold, 15,000 for Platinum, and 28,000 for Diamond. Most members earn MQDs through flights, but hotel and car spending that counts toward status is genuinely useful for anyone who travels frequently for work, takes longer road trips, or books extended stays.
A $2,000 hotel stay, for example, nets you 2,000 MQDs. That's 40% of the way to Silver Medallion on a single booking, without setting foot on a plane.
Which Offer Should You Prioritize?
For most SkyMiles members, the MQD promotion offers the clearest incremental value, especially if you have hotel or car rental spending planned before December anyway. The 15% miles discount is worth capturing if you're already sitting on a SkyMiles balance and want to stretch it on non-flight redemptions. The 5x bonus is only relevant if you're new to the portal and haven't booked there in the past two years.
One important note: these three promotions cannot be stacked. You'll need to choose which benefit applies to each booking at checkout.
The smartest play is to pair the MQD promotion with one of the Delta Amex co-branded cards, since they accelerate SkyMiles earnings on top of whatever the portal delivers. The Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card is the best starting point for most people, offering 2x miles on Delta purchases, restaurants, and U.S. supermarkets. If you're further along in your status journey, the Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card adds 3x on Delta purchases and a companion certificate each year. And for Diamond-minded frequent flyers, the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card delivers Sky Club access, 3x on Delta, and the most robust path to complimentary upgrades.

How to Book
All three promotions require booking through Delta's Travel Extras portal. Log in with your SkyMiles credentials and the eligible promotions should appear at checkout. Confirm which promotion is attached to your booking before completing the transaction.
Key deadlines to keep straight:
- 5x SkyMiles: Book by August 23, travel by December 31, 2026
- 15% miles discount: Book by June 30, travel by December 31, 2026
- MQD earning: Book by July 20, travel by December 15, 2026
The 15% discount has the tightest booking window — if that's your play, don't wait.
