The Chase Travel Portal has long been one of the most popular ways for savvy travelers to build up travel points using Chase Credit cards such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve® or Chase Sapphire Preferred® card. The bank has announced its record market share in the travel business with approximately $1 in $4 spent on US travel leisure being bought with a Chase Credit Card.

Travelers who have used the Chase portal over the year will be aware that the past year has seen substantial changes on the site, as the company begins to take the running of its travel portal completely in-house. Chase has also announced that it doesn't plan on stopping there.

Later this year, Chase will launch ChaseTravel.Com, a one-stop shop for their over 66 million credit card holders and everyday banking customers. The popular bank has also announced that it will be opening up nine more Chase Sapphire Lounge locations, including in airports in Boston, Hong Kong, New York, and Las Vegas.

Below we will take a look at what Chase customers can expect to see from the new Chase travel Portal and the New Chase Sapphire Lounges for 2024.

What will the New Chase Travel Portal Be Like?

As of yet, we don't have any definite details about what you can expect when you log into the new Chase portal, but there have been some indications from their recent announcement at the 2022 JP Morgans Chase investor Day as to what the new portal will be like.

The Chase portal is currently focused on helping cardholders work out what their Chase Ultimate Rewards points are worth and to redeem their travel points with airlines or hotel bookings through the portal. But the new website will be vastly expanded into more of an online travel agency in the manner of Expedia .

Marianne Lake, co-CEO of consumer and community banking, said, "We saw an opportunity during the pandemic to own our own destiny in travel..." This has seen the bank move towards becoming a direct travel provider as opposed to working with third-party travel providers. To that end, during the pandemic, the company acquired both the travel agency Frosch and the travel platform cxLoyalty.

This should see them beginning to develop the new travel portal as an all-purpose travel booking site with the booking engine functionalities, concierge services, and high-quality online servicing. In her presentation, Lake claimed that Chase was already one of the Top 5 US travel consumer providers and with this new announcement, it is clear that this is a side of their business that the bank is keen to lean into in the future.

Chase isn't the only Travel points credit card provider which has been expanding its reach in the travel sector following the pandemic. Capital One Venture has acquired travel companies such as Lola and Freebird, as well as heavily investing in its travel site provider Hopper.

Chase is Expanding its number of Airport Lounges in2024

Along with overhauling the Chase Portal, the bank has also announced it will be expanding the number of Chase Sapphire Lounges with six of nine new locations confirmed. More may be set to come, including in New York, Boston, Las Vegas, San Diego, and Hong Kong.

To increase the level of competition against Amex's Centurion Lounges, Chase has introduced their new scheme "Chase Sapphire Lounge by the Club."

What is Chase Sapphire Lounge by the Club?

Chase Sapphire Lounge by the Club was launched in late 2022 with the first location expected to be in either Phoenix Sky Harbor or Boston Logan Airport. The six locations which have so far been confirmed are:

  • Boston Logan Harbor (BOS)
  • Phoenix (PHX)
  • Hong Kong (HKG)
  • New York (LGA)
  • Las Vegas (LAS)
  • San Diego (SAN)

The size of the lounges varies from the large 12000 sqft location in Boston Logan Airport to a more cozy space of 3500 sqft in Phoenix Sky Harbor.

"The Club" aspect of the name comes from the fact that the project will be a coloration with Airport Dimensions who are the current operators of an existing range of 18 airport lounges named The Club which is available to Priority Pass holders.

It is expected the Chase Lounges will be improved and elevated versions of the current club lounges with wellness areas, high-quality food and drink offerings, and shower areas. We will have to wait until we see the first lounge open later this year to get a better idea of the level of service Priority Pass members can expect.

How Will You Be Able to Access the New Chase Lounges for 2022?

The new Chase lounges will be accessible to Chase Sapphire Reserve® and Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card owners who are Priority Pass members. It has not yet been confirmed whether having a Chase Sapphire Reserve® Credit card will be enough to gain airport lounge access or whether you will need to provide proof of your Priority Pass.

Takeaway: Chase Travel Portal is Expanding & adding More Lounges For 2024

Chase has long been a big name for frequent flyers when it comes to building up travel points and making the most of your travel spending. And now it seems that the bank is looking to move much further into the sector, competing with the third-party travel providers they previously worked with. They are also increasing the number of lounges they will have available for Chase credit card holders in airports from the end of the year.

This is good news for Chase Credit card holders who are bound to benefit from the new deals and discounts on the travel they will be able to garner through their Chase accounts. How successful the bank manages to be when competing against other providers remains to be seen.
